You won't want to miss the Annual Junior Parade, another fun and fabulous event in the City's ongoing Rose Festival!

The Parade is an annual tradition, dating back to 1918, when a small group of local children decided to have their own Rose Festival Parade, since the Festival was cancelled due to World War 1! From a plucky assembly of bikes, trikes, and a wagon, to today's marching bands, dance teams, and walk-on participants, the Junior Parade has grown into one of the highlights of the Festival!

'The parade starts at Noon, with Fred Bear cutting the ribbon to kick things off, but you will want to arrive early so you can get a good seat!

Link to the Parade route and street closures in the comments!

Ever look at a map of the Pacific Northwest and wonder why literally everything is named "Lewis," "William," or "Clark"? (Seriously, where is the love for "Meriwether"?)
Well, mystery solved: exactly 222 years ago TODAY, the Corps of Discovery officially set out on their epic journey west!
On May 14, 1804, the greatest expedition in American history kicked off from Hartford, Illinois (near Camp Dubois).

We all know the names of the guys who got the rivers and cities named after them, but they never would have made it to the Pacific without some serious help.

While the history books focus on the captains, the real survival strategy relied heavily on the local knowledge, translation, and diplomatic skills of Native women.
Check the comments for a fascinating article on the incredible Indigenous women who actually kept the expedition on track and alive!
