Portland Baroque Orchestra: Intimate, spontaneous, excellent historically inspired performance

05/13/2026

Looking for something rousing to do this week?

Rose City Renaissance explores the Penitential Psalms — ancient cries of anguish, repentance, and hope that speak as powerfully today as they did centuries ago. The program features beloved masterworks, including Purcell's Hear My Prayer, O Lord and Josquin's Miserere mei Deus, alongside unrecorded treasures by Leonhard Lechner, the most gifted student of Orlando di Lasso.

Period winds and strings — sackbut, recorder, dulcian, and viola da gamba — join the ensemble's voices, bringing rich contrasts of texture and dialogue to the double-choir repertoire.

Friday, May 15, 2026: The Penitential Psalms
St. Mary’s Cathedral
7:30pm
Tickets: $20 online, $25 at the door

You asked for it, and now we have it! Watch Hidden Women of Rome right now on our YouTube channel. Fruited from original research, Musicologist John K. Cox identified music written for six virtuoso nuns at the Augustinian convent of Santa Lucia in Selci in Rome. These pieces had never been performed in modern times … until this March!

Now through June 12 you can view this amazing performance of a lifetime.

Feel free to pass these links along to friends and family worldwide—your support helps keep this music alive and shared with all who cherish it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4a1mHvtUu4
