Since 1993, Lines for Life has carried out our mission through:
- 24-hour/356 days/week crisis intervention services
- Counseling and referral for addiction
- Veterans' counseling and support
- Su***de prevention and intervention
- YouthLine peer-to-peer crisis line
- Drug prevention and education for youth
- Public policy and advocacy

Lines for Life has served more than 600,000 people in the past 23 years. We have earned a reputation among our colleagues in Oregon, and nationally, as a leader in preventing su***de, and in tackling difficult, emerging alcohol and drug issues. We've achieved this by proposing ground-breaking legislation, developing state-of-the-art training, creating cutting-edge educational programs, and providing leadership on preventing underage drinking. An extensive, volunteer network and a strong Board of Directors support our organization’s mission and work.

Not sure what to say when you're worried about someone? Here's a place to start: ask directly.

Research shows that asking someone if they're thinking about su***de doesn't increase their risk but can offer relief. Something as simple as "Are you thinking about su***de?" opens the door instead of closing it. From there, listen without judgment, let them talk without rushing to fix it. If they say yes, offer help directly: "Let me help you find support," or "Will you come with me to get help?" You don't have to have all the answers.

This Su***de Prevention Month and beyond, we encourage you to start the conversation and check out our community trainings that can help you build the skills to do it with confidence: https://www.linesforlife.org/our-programs/skills-training/

Today marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, an opportunity to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latine communities. It also falls during Su***de Prevention Month, an overlap we’re using to reflect on the importance of conversation.

For Hispanic and Latine communities, language and culture shape how mental health is understood and talked about, and creating space for those conversations, in the languages and cultural context that feel most comfortable, is part of what makes support truly accessible.

This month, we're honoring both: the culture being celebrated, and the conversations still worth having.

It’s Construction Su***de Prevention Week and we're highlighting the importance of conversation.

Construction remains the second-highest occupation for su***de in the country, driven by chronic pain, a culture of toughness, and a lack of support built for the realities of the job. The Construction Su***de Prevention Partnership is working to change that, with toolbox talks, anonymous mental health assessments, and the Construction CareLine, all built specifically for this industry.

Read our latest blog to learn more about the barriers construction workers face and the resources available to break them down: https://www.linesforlife.org/mental-health-belongs-on-every-jobsite/

For World Su***de Prevention Day, we want to share a reminder.

Su***de prevention isn't one big solution. It's smaller ones working together. It's the honest conversations we have with the people we love. It's the communities that show up for each other without being asked. It's policies that put mental health on equal footing with physical health. And it's making sure quality care is actually within reach for the people who need it, not just the people who can afford it or know where to look. None of it happens without the others.

Today, and every day, we're grateful to be part of that work.

Today is 988 Day, and we want to spend it saying thank you. Behind every call, text, and chat is a crisis intervention specialist who shows up, day and night, ready to listen without judgment. They are the reason 988 works, the calm voice at 3 a.m., the steady presence during someone's hardest moment, the person who reminds a caller they're not alone. This Su***de Prevention Month, we're especially grateful for the people who make every conversation count.

Need support? Call or text 988 anytime.

Today we honor the workers who keep our communities running, in construction, healthcare, education, hospitality, agriculture, and every field in between. Work can bring purpose and pride, but it can also bring real stress and burnout. Whatever your job looks like, your mental health matters just as much as your work ethic.

Take today to rest, recharge, and check in with yourself.

"When people reach out for help, they find hope."

This Su***de Prevention Month, we're highlighting a finding that backs that up with data. A study published in JAMA found that 4,372 fewer U.S. teens and young adults died by su***de than projected in the first two and a half years after 988 launched, an 11% reduction. The reductions were sharpest among ages 15 to 23.

Lines for Life understands the importance of creating safe spaces for youth to reach out, which is why we created YouthLine. If you're a teen or young adult who needs someone to talk to, YouthLine connects you with a peer, someone your age who gets it.
