A post worth resharing to help lost pets, no matter the temperature ❄️☀️
LPTD’s recent suggestions were for recovery efforts regarding 2 missing bloodhounds and 1 missing German Shepherd.
Two of my favorite breeds that unfortunately use their noses to get into trouble…BUT have the capability to also use this organ to its fullest potential and track/air scent it’s way back home, or to a familiar object.
Our suggestion of hanging a familiar object such as the human’s own blanket/sheet/jacket/etc (any familiar scent really, even rub it all over other pets from home…whatever) up on a tree limb near home, or last place seen, or where you would like to have the lost pet return to.
Use these objects like a wind sock, the familiar scent particles will travel along with any breeze, even if it rained or freezes, it’ll be off the ground and adds more value than just a blanket laying flat on the ground.
It’s hopeful the dog will air scent this article and use its nose like a compass and aid in this desired direction.
*Success for the blanket/sheet hang for all 3:
The German Shepherd was seen by its owner under the blanket the following day.
The 2 bloodhounds had tracks in the snow next to the sheet which were followed by the owner and located shortly afterwards.
Just another implement we share in our toolbox 🧰 🐾
