"A party without cake is just a meeting." ―Julia Child Fresh, seasonal, and lovingly baked – you won’t find premade fillings or artificial coloring here.

We offer an array of flavors, from the simplest, steadiest yellow cake with chocolate frosting, to updated classics like lemon rhubarb or sweet potato cake with salted caramel icing. Our cakes are charmingly decorated, using fillings and buttercreams that would make your (and our) grandmother proud.

Hey, Portland friends! If you find yourself bored, unwilling, or unable to cook at home, our dear friend James Nowlan Fowler (owner of Devil's Food Catering) has teamed up with a number of notable food business in town, including my man's wine shop, to make baskets available at several locations about town.

James and his wife are young business owners who have just recently bought the business. They are smart, resourceful, and truly some of the most positive people you will ever meet.

Here's hoping you are in good health, and that you've not yet succumbed to cabin fever. I truly wish I was there to bake you a cake or two.

A handheld version of rice pudding??? Oh my.
This version from Giancarlo Perbellini is made with the famous Veronese rice, Vialone Nano.

Our CruNomade trip to the Loire Valley was truly a blast! We visited some of my favorite markets in France, dove into many a winemaker's cellar, and practiced our Kouign Amann skills with a native Breton at NO.MAD COFFEE. (No surprise, this was the highlight of my trip.)

My French may leave much to be desired, but Gateau Breton does not. Our latest email dishes about both subjects, plus a glorious food and wine trip to the Pyrenees. https://mailchi.mp/palacecakes/my-french-may-leave-much-to-be-desired-but-gateau-breton-does-not

Cannot WAIT to bake with these goose eggs.

I have a real weakness for rustic pastries. Fancy ones? Meh. Give me a pastel de nata over a Paris Brest any day.

I now own more Kugelhopf molds than I know what to do with.

Gâteau Breton - one of my very favorite ways to show off great butter.

France is known for many things. But good coffee? Not often on that list, I'm afraid. Cafés de la Major (l'atelier de Torréfaction) is a rare gem in Paris. This tiny, perfectly tidy shop hidden deep down an alleyway near the Place de la Bastille has won our hearts.
