Seems like everything is under attack. I guess I see a glimmer of hope in grassroots things like the Soul Box Project that are not under anybody’s jurisdiction. Do it yourself may be the way America saves itself.

‘There are many layers to this’ - City Pulse Quiet spaces for meditation and healing, sobering visual reminders of the scope and impact of gun violence in America and calls to action are all part of a new exhibit at Michigan State University’s Broad Art Museum, “Art in the Aftermath: Healing Gun Violence Through Artivism.”

Our intention is to make The Soul Box Project as accessible as possible, with everything you need to get started on SoulBoxProject.org. Here is a great example of a group at Anne Arundel County Department of Health who picked it up and are using it to great effect.

One section of the Soul Box Project exhibit is on display in August at the Wilsonville Library after a month at the Hillsboro Library. The Soul Box Project
Art revealing the gun violence epidemic.
The purpose of the Soul Box Project is to visually reveal the ever-growing number of gun-related deaths and injuries in the United States. The growing number of victims is nearly impossible to grasp – over 218,000 from 2014-2017. Su***de by guns add another 22,000 lives lost each year.* The Soul Box Project is a creative and thought-provoking response to these horrific losses.
Our vision is to help our nation comprehend this epidemic with massive public displays of small origami Soul Boxes, each one representing one life touched by gunfire. In the tradition of other national art projects like the AIDS Memorial Quilt, which grew to cover the National Mall in 1996, our goal is to display tens of thousands of Soul Boxes together, revealing the staggering number of victims in a way that cannot be ignored.
Imagine the impact of huge piles, long walls, or soaring columns of individual Soul Boxes, some with personal stories attached, each made by a man, woman, or child saying: No more. We will not forget. We will not look away. You are loved.
The Soul Box Project begins with folding paper into a box to acknowledge one life. It comes together in a massive art statement. It continues with a cultural shift, as people are awakened to take actions that align with their concerns.
