Thick As Thieves [ROCK] Portland’s Tango Alpha Tango is best experienced amid a crowded room of sweaty guitar junkies. NED LANNAMANN, PORTLAND MERCURY

Logically, then, a well-mixed live album is the next greatest thing. Captured last year at local recording space Banana Stand, the performance delivered by the quartet tackles a sprawling beast in 12 songs. From the first bluesy electric-guitar riff in “Kill & Haight” to the gritty energy of “Black Cloud,” the record not only translates frontman Nathan Trueb’s ability to write a good tune and domi

Start Again 001 is out now wherever you listen to music.

This is a collection of snapshots of the genesis of a song from its inception to its final form (for now).

I stumbled across these decade-old voice memos, the first of which was a different riff I was exploring and you can hear the very first idea for what would become Start Again. Back then I was mumbling “play to win” which eventually turned into Start Again. A subsequent voice memo shows the next chapter- twenty days later. Eventually I recorded a simple demo to share with the band, which I’ve shared as the 3rd track. And finally, Start Again, the fully realized version. After playing this one live for over ten years you can finally listen to it at will. Hope you enjoy the BTS. More music coming soon.

1. Play to Win (Voice Memo)
2. Start Over (Voice Memo)
3. Start Over (Demo)
4. Start Again

Mirabai Carter- bass, bgv
Matt Moss- drums
Justin Chase- guitar, keys, mix
Nathan Trueb- music & lyrics, guitar, vocals, photo cover
David Po***ck- Mastering

10 years ago today we released White Sugar our 2nd album. It was recorded and mixed by at Supernatural in Oregon City with executive producer . Mastered for vinyl by . The band at the time included Joey Harmon on drums and Daniel Jones on keys/guitar. Here’s some memories from around that time and some alternate album cover ideas.

Walker Beckman, original Tango Alpha Tango drummer tragically passed away from unexpected health complications. We wanted to take a moment of remembrance for Walker and his time with us as a friend and band mate.

Nathan first met Walker while studying jazz in college and they ended up in the same small combo backing up the jazz choir, Genesis. They quickly became fast friends and musical allies. He was one of the most talented people Nathan had ever met. Not only was he virtuosic on the drums, he could play guitar and bass, beatbox like Rahzel and sing so well that the Jazz choir director pulled him up to do a vocal solo. He had incredible pitch and ears. They toured with the jazz choir all over the PNW playing at schools and jazz fests, most notably The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.

Last week we headed into the studio to lay down some tracks live to tape. We got 6 tunes down in a day and a half and had a really great time. Huge thank you to for the opportunity and for for his engineering expertise. We can’t wait to make more music here and show you what we’ve been working on. We’re gonna make up for lost time and start releasing more music. We have so many songs you haven’t heard and we’re gonna release music more consistently. We beg you for a little more patience as we button these next recordings up.

P.S. sooo much cool gear but Mirabai had the privilege of using Donald “Duck” Dunn’s OG bass guitar on several of the tracks!

A fan of ours recently got our permission to have lathe cut records made of our first 3 albums, Rebel Sons of Cowboys, Self-Titled, and Black Cloud. Only a couple of copies were made of each and given to us as a gift. Thank you so much Brock. The last slide, if you can zoom in, are some words he wrote about his experience finding our music long ago.

Would love to release these all on vinyl someday if there is interest.
