Religious Exemption Accountability Project
We’re building a nationwide movement to show LGBTQ students facing discrimination on religious campuses that they are not alone.
The Religious Exemption Accountability project empowers q***r, trans and non-binary students at more than 200 taxpayer-funded religious schools that actively discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. Through civil rights litigation, documentary film, oral history, research and public policy, we work towards a world where LGBTQ students on all campuses are trea

Update from REAP
05/10/2025
These times are uncertain. The new administration has made it difficult for most nonprofits working in the civil rights sector to see a clear path forward. That is why REAP has retained a new lawyer, one who will be aiding us as we offer the best care and resources to LGBTQ+ students on non-affirming Christian campuses. It's an ever-changing landscape, but the work is still the same: Protect young adults at all costs and make sure they are informed of their rights and any resources that will give them a level playing field.
We invite you to read our press release and join us as we embark on this new journey with

Colleges are under threat and are being forced to rescind all DEI measures regarding hiring, teaching, and the diversity of those they allow to attend their schools.
International students are living in fear of the possibility of a swift and final deportation midway through the academic year.
The Office of Civil Rights is under attack and, with direction from the Department of Education, has closed several offices, making it even harder for students to report Title IX infractions. This is unsafe!
Despite these startling changes, REAP still believes that Christian schools should be held to their high standards and protect their students as their faith suggests. REAP remains committed to the safety and education of LGBTQ+ students. Keep in touch with our work by joining our mailing list. Together we can do great things, even now.

Today it's more than just LGBTQ+ students on religious campuses that are in danger. Across the board, all LGBTQ+ students are fearful of losing their constitutional rights on college campuses thanks to Project 2025 and the gutting of the federal government. Without the Department of Education or the Office of Civil Rights to lean on, it's up to all students to stand together for what is right.

Don't patronize us with these questions. The work isn't to blame people for their precarious positions in life, it's to call out the abusers of power who put them there.

"To offer some hope for today’s activist-students fighting for LGBTQ equality and other causes on evangelical campuses, we can look to the history of student protests at Christian colleges. Even colleges with religious exemptions should not forget the important work done by student activists to fight for racial integration on their own campuses. At one religious college in Texas, the fight for students of color to be admitted began almost 100 years ago in the 1930s—and it was led by a q***r student."

With the Biden administration's Title IX rules being revoked it looks like we have our work cut out for us in 2025.
We want to give a sincere and energetic shoutout to LGBTQ+ students on non-affirming campuses, especially those who attend the Fireside Chats. We see you and we've got your back!
