On June 1st, 1996, over 300,000 people rallied in DC for Stand for Children Day — the momentous event that inspired the founding of Stand for Children.
Over the last 3 decades, we've been a voice for children in Oregon's capitol, advocating for improved access to career technical education, research-aligned literacy instruction, and time in school.
What's your vision for the next 30 years? Let us know in the comments!
It's also a proper noun 🔍
Did you know it's national spelling bee week? Research-aligned spelling instruction involves phonics, phonemic awareness, and morphology!
We'll keep standing so children in Oregon can access strong literacy instruction, career and college pathways, and adequate instructional time.

In case you missed it... The Oregon Journalism Project and Willamette Week highlighted one of Oregon's literacy trailblazers — our friend, Ronda Fritz out of Eastern Oregon University.
Ronda's High Impact Tutoring program that partners Eastern Oregon University students with local schools has inspired us to do the same in communities across the state.
Together, we can improve literacy outcomes for all of Oregon's children!
Learn more about her story here:
From ‘Almost Brainwashed’ to Pioneer How one teacher’s struggle to save her son led her to take on Oregon’s reading crisis.
The incredible Dana Nerenberg — our resident literacy expert — at last week's Early Literacy Demonstration Network Convening!
Educators in our network get access to the latest research, in-person and virtual coaching and professional development, and resources to share with their colleagues.
Our work doesn't stop in the legislature. Dana is in classrooms across the state helping educators to build their practices and implement the science of reading with integrity.

"Maxxing" is the internet's way of saying go all in.
So here's what literacy maxxing looks like: building strong reading foundations, growing vocabulary, making meaning, and connecting kids to books that are windows and mirrors.
Share this post with an educator that is literacy maxxing 💫
Some behind the scenes footage from our Early Literacy Demonstration Network convening this week.
Educators came together to refine their practices, learn from one another, and dive into the latest research. We’re so proud of their commitment and growth!
Oregon ranks 47th in the nation for time in school, with large disparities around the state.
For the first time, you can see how much time is offered at each of Oregon's 197 school districts, all in one place!

Meet Beat the Odds Scholar, Bobby!
A single moment of connection led to the realization that he wanted to impact children's lives every day.
Now on his way to becoming a teacher, he gets hands-on experience in the classroom in the Early Childhood Education program at Grants Pass High School.
Stories like his are exactly why we believe in the power of CTE to open doors.
