We’re grateful to have supported John on his journey to stable housing through our veteran and housing services programs. His story is a powerful reminder that it takes more than a job to end homelessness—it takes community, resources, and opportunity.
Thank you to Blanchet House and Farm for sharing John’s story and for the incredible work you do every day. 🧡
People often say to adult men experiencing homelessness, "Get a job!"
John first got a room at Blanchet House and Farm. Then he got a job.
You can't get a job without an address, a safe place to sleep, a shower, and regular meals.
Once John had a room, he found work at the airport. Next, our staff connected him to services for veterans. He just moved into his own apartment thanks to support from Easterseals & Easterseals Oregon.
A job alone isn't enough to end someone's homelessness.

As summer quickly approaches, we want to remind folks there is still space available for this year’s Easterseals Oregon Summer Camp and scholarship support is still available to help make camp accessible for families with youth between ages of 12 to 17 years old.
Camp is such a special experience filled with friendship, confidence-building, recreation, and unforgettable memories. From outdoor adventures and games to campfires and community, we would love the opportunity to welcome your camper back this summer.
In addition, Evans Creek has completed the construction on the lodge, making it a more comfortable camp experience this year.
We currently have limited openings remaining and encourage families to submit their application as soon as possible. Scholarship opportunities are available, but applications must be submitted by June 10th.
We hope you can join us for summer camp this year! 🧡

This month Easterseals Oregon celebrates its’ 79th birthday providing services ensuring everyone has access to live, learn, work, and play in their communities. 🧡
Fewer than 1% of organizations in Oregon have sustained their impact for nearly 80 years. It is a major milestone to be celebrated. 🎉
We were here before Nike, before Apple, before Starbucks, before many of the brands that define our daily lives.
In 1950, our purpose was: to improve health, education, employment, and opportunity so that children and adults with disabilities could fully participate in everyday society. At that time, many children with disabilities in Oregon were not given access to education at all. That is why we began, with a school, creating opportunity where none existed.
Today, that vision still defines who we are.
There has been meaningful progress. Education is no longer out of reach, it is integrated into our public school system. Access has expanded. And yet, the need for belonging, for equity, and for the opportunity for full participation remains.
Where we once showed up to create access to education, we now show up in new ways:
* Supporting individuals in the workplace so they can build meaningful careers
* Helping people access stable housing so they can thrive in their communities
* Continuing to break down barriers so everyone has the opportunity to belong
The heart of our mission has never changed, only where and how we meet the need.
We began this work in 1947 because opportunity did not exist. We continue this work today because, while progress has been made, the promise we set out to fulfill is not yet complete.
