UPDATE: We know that many of you heard the recent news that we would be retiring and closing the Congress Street Anania’s on 12/24. Since the news broke, we’ve received an outpouring of kind words and seen many familiar faces in the store, and the support has been so appreciated!

However, following the news, we accepted an offer on the store and, unfortunately, we’ll now be closing on Friday 11/15.  We’re very sorry for any inconvenience this causes, but we’re excited for the plans that the buyer has for the future!

Running the Congress Street store and serving the Libbytown and Greater Portland community for 60 plus years has been an incredible honor for three generations of our family.  We’re so thankful for our loyal customers and the hundreds of employees that have been a part of our team over the years.  We’ve put our heart and soul into this business and have so many wonderful memories!

Please continue to visit our team at 606 Washington Avenue, which will remain “Anania’s” under the very capable ownership and management of Zach Lord!

October is Italian American Heritage Month! My mother was born in Italy and my father's parents were born there! They immigrated to America, and the rest is our proud history!

via Hardcore Italians:

It's a time to reflect on the incredible journey of Italian immigrants and their descendants, whose stories have woven a beautiful tapestry in the fabric of America. 🇮🇹 🇺🇸

The flavors of Italy have become part of our shared culinary heritage, reminding us that food isn't just sustenance; it's a way to connect, share stories, and create lasting memories with family and friends. From the first taste of a homemade pasta dish to the comforting aroma of a pizza fresh from the oven, these traditions bring us closer together. 🍝

The melodies of Italian music, the artistry of Italian painters, and the contributions of Italian Americans in various fields have left an indelible mark on our culture. It's a testament to the creativity, passion, and determination that thrive in the Italian American community. 🎶

Italian American Heritage Month also serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by immigrants and the resilience they displayed in forging a new life in a foreign land. Their struggles and triumphs continue to inspire us to build bridges, not walls, and to cherish the rich diversity that makes our nation strong. 🤝

In addition, let us not forget the architectural legacy left by Italian Americans, with their craftsmanship and design shaping the skylines of our cities. From ornate churches to elegant buildings, their architectural contributions stand as a testament to their skill and dedication in leaving a lasting mark on our urban landscapes. 🏙️

So, in this month of remembrance and celebration, let us come together to honor the Italian American heritage that has added so much vibrancy to our nation. It's a reminder that, in unity and diversity, we find strength, and in embracing our roots, we build a brighter future.

💚 🤍 ❤️
