I’ve managed to achieve another milestone in an industry and a place I love. 30 years TODAY here at WGME CBS 13 News, Portland Broadcasting has seen a lot of changes in the years since I began and, like all industries, adaptation and resilience are essential to longevity. But so are values like purpose, commitment and understanding who and what matters. In my case, they are the people who trust me to share their important and sometimes sensitive information, the colleagues who trust me to “row the boat” in rhythm with them on a daily basis, and then those who watch and consume our content and trust me to get it right. I’m not perfect. But I trust you to let me know when I’ve fallen short and trust me to do better the next time.
It’s no coincidence the word “trust” appears in all ends of that equation.
Thank you everyone for supporting me over the years. I look forward to whatever comes next!

I needed a couple of days before I could write this. Our mother, Nana, wife, and dear friend to many, Erlene Lawson Lagerquist, passed away peacefully this week surrounded by all the love she brought to this world reflected back at her.
Love that endures.
I want to say thank you to everyone who reached out with kind words, love and encouragement over the past few days. I know grief is no stranger to many. I’ve shared them with my family. It’s meant more than I can say.
And to all the workers out there— you are special people. You bring kindness, compassion and grace to a place no one ever enters by choice and rarely stays long.
Thank you ❤️
I’m now staying with my Dad for a bit to help him on the next part of his journey— one he now has to walk without his high school sweetheart and wife of nearly 65 years. One his family, friends and I will make sure he doesn’t walk alone.
I’ll see you in June.

This is tough to write but here goes. You may have noticed I’m away from WGME CBS 13 News, Portland. I’m taking some time to be with my Dad and help care for my Mom. She’s the person who showered us with love and made us feel we were worthy of anything and capable of anything. Which meant anything less than giving our best was not good enough.
At 86, she’s beaten breast cancer, survived a heart attack, and kept Parkinson’s at bay by working out six days a week for years. She’s been a force of nature who’s run on grit and energy and love. But now, while her mind is still razor sharp, her body is betraying her. She’s helping us understand that while love can be an inexhaustible resource— grit and energy are not. And for her, they have finally run out.
This weekend she made the decision with her doctors that it was time to go to hospice. My dad, brother and I wanted to deny it. She did not. I guess she’s braver than we are. Or more direct and willing to accept things as they are, not as we sometimes wish they could be.
But she does have wishes and has been busy making them come true. First, to say goodbye to her many friends, who have flooded her and us with messages and memories. It’s been amazing and has meant so much.
And second, she has been spending what time she has left with her husband of almost 65 years, and her kids and her five grandkids, who all flew in from around the country to be with her one last time. She wanted to hug each of them and tell them how much she loves them. To remind them they are worthy of anything and capable of anything. And that love is an inexhaustible resource if you only let it be.
Her decline has been rapid these past few days. She accepts it even if we do not. So I’ll be back when I can. But for now, I’m where I need to be.
Bless you all. And don’t miss the chance to tell those you love that they’re worthy and capable and that they are loved.
