Welcome to PIMC! Please join us in meditation, community, and the awakening of wisdom. PIMC is based upon the Noble Eightfold Path of the Buddha.

Portland Insight Meditation Center and the PIMC community are an experiment in American Buddhism. FINDING OUR WAY HOME: Nothing to fix, everything to love
A Half Day Retreat with Enrique Collazo

Saturday, March 28
9:00 am โ€“ 1:00 pm
HELD IN PERSON & ONLINE via ZOOM

Drawing from the Buddhaโ€™s teaching on dependent origination (the 12 links), weโ€™ll explore how suffering is not a personal failure, but a conditioned process. And how perception leads to emotion, emotion to reaction, and reaction to deeply wired patterns. Rather than using this insight to judge ourselves, weโ€™ll practice meeting these patterns with care through the Brahmavihฤras: loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity. In this way, insight becomes not a weapon against ourselves, but a doorway to care, forgiveness, and connection.

Begin the New Year grounded in practice with teacher trainee, Paul LaVigne, offering the Dharma talk this Sunday, January 4 on The Fourth Foundation of Mindfulness: Dhammas. In this final section of the Satipatthana Sutta, the Buddha gives us several strategies to help us develop an expanded perspective regarding the activity of our own minds. As we combine this framing with the truth of impermanence, we develop a better capacity to let go of craving, aversion, and delusion.

Start your year by slowing down! Join resident teacher Jim Dalton with the Daltones (Karen and Doug Oโ€™Dell) for a nourishing day of mindful movement, guided meditation, silent sitting and group discussion.

Offered both in-person and online, the Saturday workshop will review several QiGong traditions: the familiar Shibashi routines, plus โ€œThe Eight Pieces of Brocade" โ€“ ancient approaches to healing and rejuvenation.

Using these practices to get in touch with our subtle somatic energy, we will explore both the active and the calming aspects of the Seven Factors of Awakening (mindfulness, energy, investigation, rapture, tranquility, concentration and equanimity). We will experience together which factors are useful for the sluggish mind, which are best suited for the restless mind, and how the Seven Factors teaching can help us enter a space of bare attention and calm abiding.

Bring a sack lunch and a snack to share with other participants if you wish. Please register by Dec. 31, so we can most effectively make arrangements for the group.

There's still room to join us this Saturday for a gentle, heart-centered retreat guided by Douglas Pullin. Weโ€™ll explore vedanฤ โ€” the subtle โ€œfeeling toneโ€ that colors every moment โ€” learning to welcome each sensation as it is, without needing to fix or change anything.

Through guided and silent sitting and walking meditations, a Dharma talk, and time for reflection and questions, weโ€™ll kindle mindfulness, kindness, and equanimity to carry with us through the season and beyond. All are welcome โ€” in person or online.
