🏔️ Mt. Hood in Portland
One of my favorite things about Portland is how Mt. Hood just appears beside you sometimes. Different streets, different neighborhoods, different moods, always beautiful.
The mountains are healing. Seeing them, something shifts. I haven’t visited Hood yet, but seeing it from all these corners of the city makes it feel strangely familiar.

REPOST from
Meet your 2026 Portland Q***r Arts Spectacular Artistic Director.

Daniel Switzer (he/him/they) is a performer, director, choreographer, and multidisciplinary creative whose work lives at the intersection of theatricality, collaboration, and community. Daniel has spent more than a decade performing on Broadway - including Wicked, Newsies, Frozen and more - before planting roots in the Pacific Northwest and turning his attention to directing, choreography, and making things from scratch.

This year’s theme, The World We Create, explores q***r identity through the act of creation. The act of making something that didn’t exist before you did.

In Daniel’s words: “I’ve alwavs believed art can change how people see the world. The World We Create is our chance to ask: what world are we making? What does it look like when we build it together?”

This fall, that question takes the stage again for two nights at the Alberta Rose Theatre (.theatre).

A collaboration between poetry and movement.

Created in collaboration with Christopher Luna , this piece explores the meeting point between spoken word and contemporary dance. We wanted it to feel suspended in time, dreamlike, strange, and full of movement that carries meaning before it can be explained. Performed at , this is a short glimpse into the larger work, where voice and body eventually find each other in motion. Produced by Watch the full video at the link in bio.

After the rain, comes the bloom. Portland’s Cherry Blossoms only happen for a short time before the petals come snowing down, about 2 weeks of bloom.

Let our homes be the places we want them to be. A little messy, a little quiet, a little all over the place, a little ours.

In my natural habitat: explaining the thing I wish someone explained to me sooner. 🧠🎤
There’s a special kind of joy in watching the lightbulb moments happen in real time, when it clicks, when confidence shows up, when someone realizes they can do it too.
That’s why teaching matters so much to me. It’s bigger than technique, it’s about opening doors, building confidence, and reminding people they belong in the room now, not “someday.”
No gatekeeping. No mystery. Just real tools, real support, and seeing the next generation moving further than we ever could alone. 🌱✨

Coming back to Rockford University as a graduate and now standing in front of the room as a teacher hits differently.

This place helped shape me, and this week I had the privilege of pouring back into the next generation through two specific workshops, “The Bigger Picture” and “I’m a Mover, Not a Dancer.”

Passing down what I’ve learned about confidence, resilience, and showing up fully, feels like the most meaningful kind of full circle. Im super grateful for these artists and the work ahead of them.
