Tomorrow night, we’re opening the doors to Keys to the World We Create, a benefit for Portland Q***r Arts celebrating q***r artistry, storytelling, and the creative worlds we build together. 🌈
Hosted by PQA Artistic Director Daniel Switzer, this intimate evening at Portland Center Stage brings together performance and conversation with artists from our community.
Featuring:
🎹 Matt Katz, performing an original piano piece
🎤 Seb Lockhart, sharing an original spoken word work
🎶 Mak Kastelic, on the keys and singing
💛 Kimo Camat + Mak Kastelic, closing the evening with a special song
Throughout the evening, Daniel will also talk with the artists about their work, their creative lives, and what it means to create more q***r and inclusive spaces

Live performance of “Iris” Goo Goo Dolls cover at BodyVox Dance Center in Portland, OR.
Sometimes art is the only way I know how to say what I cannot explain out loud. This performance is my way of asking to be seen, not just for what I can do, but for who I am.
I am a performer, choreographer, director, and writer, but those titles are only part of me. I am also a person who has been through a lot, carried things quietly, and wondered whether anyone would truly understand the parts of my story that do not fit neatly into a résumé or a spotlight.
This piece lives in that space between wanting to be known and being afraid of what might happen when people look too closely. Through the music, movement, and vulnerability of this performance, I am saying: I want you to know who I am. Not the perfect version. Not just the artist. The whole person. My mother is my inspiration and this piece is dedicated to her memory.

Portland Pride, you absolute rainbow tornado 🌈✨🦄 My favorite Pride yet, and my voice is officially GONE from all the wooting, hollering, and q***r joy.
From BodyVox Pride Night, to hosting Portland Q***r Arts on the Mainstage, to celebrating with NTCSL’s Rainbow Alliance… my heart is full, my camera roll is fuller, and my vocal cords have filed a formal complaint.
Here’s to creating more safe spaces where q***r people feel seen, celebrated, and free to be gloriously loud. 💖

NYC summers always have a way of pulling me back in.
I’ve been thinking about Pride events, rooftop evenings, park parties, outdoor yoga, and those random summer plans that somehow turn into the best memories. There’s always something happening, and somehow the city makes even a simple day feel like an event.
