Extradition is a musical ensemble working at the intersection of composition and improvisation

Extradition is a musical ensemble working at the intersection of composition and improvisation, intentionality and chance, clarity and silence. Based in Portland, Oregon, USA, we present quarterly concerts and intimate recital events that feature realizations of notated scores, text- and graphics-based works, and structured improvisations. We maintain no repertoire, instead always moving forward—learning and performing new works and then putting them aside to prepare for what’s next.

Extradition Plays Philip Corner: Parte II, by Extradition 05/30/2026

Four years ago, Portland’s Extradition Ensemble launched a multi-year project with composer Philip Corner (b. 1933) dedicated to performing and recording works from his vast, seven-decade catalog. Today, we’ve released for pre-order the latest manifestation of that project: EXTRADITION PLAYS CORNER: PARTE II, presenting 80 tracks focusing on 21st-century works alongside key pieces from earlier decades. It’s a 15½-hour journey into Corner’s all-encompassing sound world, where elemental music theory and democratized 12-tone serialism meet improvisation, field-recordings, sonic meditations, austere minimalism, post-punk guitars, rain, cows, rocks, twigs, drones, bones, and bells — all realized in open, generous collaboration between composer and performers.

The full album will release on the evening of June 20, and includes a 56-page pdf booklet of composition notes, essays, photos, credits, and a short biography of the composer.

From Nothing, by Daniel Reyes Llinás 05/29/2026

Extradition contributor Daniel Reyes Llinás has just released a beautiful new recording:

https://llinas.bandcamp.com/album/from-nothing

"From Nothing is an EP in three movements that explores the relationship between acoustic and electronic matter across a latent dramaturgy shaped by minimal gestures and granular dialogues. Within a shifting sonic landscape rich in morphological nuances, each sound carries a trace of transfiguration as a plurality of patterns aggregate and dissolve in a shared search oriented toward continuity and transformation. Out of this open dynamic, guitarist and composer Daniel Reyes Llinás gathers a new ensemble together with violinist Madeline Hocking, violist Hannah Selin and cellist Clara Cho. Through frictions and suspensions, the quartet gradually unfolds luminous spaces, where each element redefines and supports the balance of the others. Moving through a circular temporality of instants, From Nothing, Imagen Dos and Diálogos simultaneously inhabit a space open to presence and to the possibilities of sound."
