๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ Creative thinking is limited (if not impossible) when our bodies are stressed. Fortunately, nature is an abundant resource we can immerse in to activate our parasympathetic nervous system and calm our bodies.
๐ก Creative functioning thrives when the body is in a parasympathetic state. A study from Frontiers in Psychology showed 20-30 minutes spent in nature dropped cortisol levels by 21.3%, and the Public Library of Science published a study that found four days immersed in nature increased creative thinking and problem-solving performance by 50%.
๐๐ฝ Engaging in nervous system regulation in nature promotes creative thinking and successful innovation by helping us:
๐Attain a parasympathetic state faster
๐Engage in extended ideation
๐Expand our capacity to explore unconventional ideas and processes
๐Increase our tolerance for uncertainty
A calm nervous system supports intentional change.
๐ง๐ฝโโ๏ธ Human physiological responses to nature are astoundingly beneficial. When we remove ourselves from the physical barriers of built environments, the body can relax, stress can reduce, and our ability to think outside-the-box expands.
๐๐ฝ Thatโs why Salt+Grit is intentional about where we do our work. We integrate nature into everything we do, for individuals and for businesses. We step outside four-walled environments and into boundless ones, because in natural and inspiring settings, our capacity for ideation and innovation increases.
๐ฒ This approach is not an escape nor is it a luxury. It is simply an essential ingredient for real strategic work. The quality of our thinking elevates when we immerse in natural environments. The settings we choose support honest reflection and the peeling back of layers to identify root causes and innovative solutions.
Immersion in nature is intentional. When youโre embarking on your journey of change, where you think does in fact matter. ๐

Most people (and organizations) draft a โplanโ while theyโre still in fog.
Jumping to a โsolutionโ without actually understanding how to design and implement strategy will inevitably leave you frustrated and further behind.
At Salt+Grit we blend professional design strategy methods (used by industry disruptors every day) with experiential workshops and coaching.
Methodically, we examine how you got where you are today.
Together, we discover insights, challenge assumptions, name barriers, and begin untangling the confusion and mess.
We transform overwhelm and discomfort into motivating and energizing collaborative engagements.
We pay attention to what keeps repeating, what has been tolerated, and where energy shifts or tightens.
We get specific about what needs to change, which support systems can help make improve and sustain growth, and define exactly what โnextโ looks like for you or your organization.
You can experience working with us through our:
๐ Free virtual mini workshops
