Sitting back here thinking about what you don’t know. Get ready kids!

Time…

As parents…we can’t get it back.

As kids…they can’t either.

Most preteens and teens spend more than 6 hours on a smart device EVERY SINGLE DAY…not including time texting.

At that rate, by the time a 15 year-old turns 35, they will have spent more than 24 hours a day 7 days a week for 5 years of their life on their devices…

They may ask themselves what they did with their time.

But I guarantee we will ask ourselves what we LET them do with it.

Time is the only currency that absolutely MUST be spent in order to purchase greatness!

Encourage your kids to spend their time wisely.

They won’t get it back.

Mental health is much like physical or spiritual health.

It’s not a static or permanent state of being, but rather dynamic and ever changing component of our lives, based on how it is treated, cared for, nourished, and protected.

We need to stop expecting perfection when it comes to our mental health.

We can’t always anticipate setbacks with our mental health any more than we can predict injuries or illnesses of the body or crisis of spiritual faith.

All we can do is address our mental health and fitness today and prepare now for the challenges to our mental health and fitness that will inevitably come tomorrow.

It is not “fate” that we exist in some permanent place of mental agony.

But, rather, it is our ability to fight that will most influence the measure of our mental wellness.

Fight and FIGHT HARD to feel better more often. Nothing is permanent.

Nobody else can fight for you.

YOU ARE IN CONTROL! FIGHT!!!

When’s the last time you told yourself that you love yourself?

Try it. Try to mean it. Pretend, if you can, you’re talking to a loved one…only that loved one is you.

If you’re like me…you’re REALLY hard on yourself sometimes. Like…REALLY hard.

Like many, I struggle finding my self-love sometimes.

I do a little better each day as I:

-Believe God and believe in His sincere love for me.
-Believe others and believe in their sincere love for me.
-Place my focus on the right things.
-Emulate those I admire
-Model good thoughts and behaviors.
-Surround myself with family and friends who love me unconditionally.

One of the most difficult challenges of my life is to feel love, pride, respect, admiration, affection, and affinity from everyone around me…only to feel none of those things for myself.

Please, it’s VITAL that we give ourselves permission to love ourselves.

Give yourself a break. Give yourself some compassion, empathy, patience, kindness, and love. You give those things to everyone else whenever they need it…why are you less deserving?

It’s okay to not be okay.

If you need help…PLEASE SAY SOMETHING!!! .up.foundation

Try this:

Ask your kids to recall a REAL life event from the past. Maybe it was a year ago…maybe it was several years ago. Have them describe everything they can about it.

Then, ask your kids to recall an ARTIFICIAL life event from social media from the last hour, last night…last week. Ask for the same details.

Take note to recognize their eyes, their mouths, their body language as they describe both things.

Are they smiling? Laughing? Do they light up? Are they excited to tell you?

Do their REAL life memories stir other memories and lead to more fond recall and recollection?

What about their social media memories?

I’m curious to know…which memories do they seem to remember best? Which do they seem to cherish most? Let me know in the comments.

Make more REAL memories.
