Chosen for the competitive ASCI Postbaccalaureate Program, Luisa Morgan ’26 will be working for the next two years in an OHSU lab focused on fighting heart disease.

For Reed’s first Beckman Scholars, undergraduate research isn’t confined to a summer or a semester. Peter Gilbert ’27 and Harnoor Nagra ’27 are pursuing long-term projects in the biomolecular sciences with faculty mentors, supported by a program designed to give students the time to take their research further.

Amelia Hard ’67 has been named the 2026 recipient of the Thomas Lamb Eliot Award for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of her impact on Portland’s culinary landscape and her decades-long commitment to food justice and education.

Reed will formally present the award to Amelia Hard on Thursday, October 1, at 6 p.m. in the Vollum lecture hall, and Hard will present a talk that is free and open to the public.

The Reed International Faculty Exchange Program continues to connect scholars across continents—most recently, Professor Kara Cerveny [biology] and Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona Professor Cristina Pujades exchanged visits.

“At the end of the day,” Cerveny said of the experience, “it’s about those human connections.”

Earlier this week, members of the Oregon House and Senate toured the Reed Research Reactor, joining Reactor Director Jerry Newhouse to learn more about the only reactor of its kind owned and operated by a liberal arts college.
