I’ll always remember you like the 8 year old to my 12 year old making big plans to visit orca whales in the PNW. And I’ll remember you like this too— seeing that dream fulfilled over 15 years later, amidst laughter that turns into ugly crying, lots of good food, and a sister trip we could have only dreamed about before. I love you 💛

Art is this to one person and that to another. Art is subjective and beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder BUT if we open ourselves up enough..if we are vulnerable enough to share the inner part of ourselves that most of the world may never get to see, there is potential for such deep resonance to be created and in that creation, art is no longer subjective— its impact is shared by a little teeny part of the collective. And that’s where the magic is. Here are some photos from my trip to Costa Rica in December with my sisters that I’m proud of. The cliche of being able to capture memories through photography is not lost on me, but it is truly one of the greatest gifts I’ve been given. This trip was beautiful in so many ways and I think the photos do that beauty justice. Maybe you do too 💛

The past 3 months have been transformational for me in a way that I am not able to put into words. I have allowed myself to truly rest and reflect for the first time in my adult life. I can truly not remember a time when I wasn’t on to the next thing and not using the phrase, “oh things will slow down when…”. I’m a busy bee in my nature and I truly love filling my life with things that bring me joy, but the runaway train went unchecked for too long. I took a break from social media (a very needed one) and I no longer instantly reach for the apps when I open my phone. To be dramatic, I feel reborn. I feel like the most me I’ve ever felt, and I am so thankful to be living a slower and more connected life.

In the wake of this rest, I have shed a lot of self- imposed labels— namely, relating to my role and vocation. I’ve been a “photographer” since age 14 and dug myself into a bit of a commercialized hole in the name of making money. I burned out, and hard. I sacrificed my artistry in order to make clients happy. In order to regain that artistry, photography is going to look different for me from now on, and I am so excited when the time comes for me to fall back in love with it again. Miranda Rico Photography is turning into just Miranda Rico— a place for me to show up exactly as I am: an artist, but more importantly, a human. I’m excited to share the inner workings of my brain and my projects, or not! Thank you for being along for the ride 💛

Get you some friends that ask you to photograph them and tip you in a freshly baked loaf of bread 🫶🏼 I have been consciously shifting the way that I create lately and I always surprise myself with the work that can come out of an aligned heart space. More of this in 2025 please 💛
