This , Support 63 Years of Service, Leadership, and Community

For over six decades, MCSOSAR has stood as one of the Pacific Northwest’s longest continually operating search and rescue teams. Our story began in 1960, when an Explorer Post bagpiping group answered the call to assist in a search for a missing child on Mt. Hood. That day changed everything. By 1961, we were 100% committed to Search and Rescue, and we’ve remained steadfast in that mission ever since.

At the heart of MCSOSAR is our dedication to youth leadership and community development. Our youth-led model empowers young people to lead search efforts, mentor their peers, and work alongside law enforcement in a positive, collaborative environment. This unique approach fosters responsibility, self-reliance, and lifelong bonds while breaking down barriers between youth and law enforcement.

In 63 years, we’ve conducted hundreds of missions—locating lost hikers, assisting in criminal evidence searches, and training thousands of volunteers who’ve gone on to serve in the military, emergency services, and more. Together, our team has contributed over 2 million hours of volunteer time to making our community safer.

This Giving Tuesday, you can help us continue this legacy. Your support ensures that our volunteers have the tools, training, and resources they need to save lives and build stronger communities. Join us in making a difference—one mission, one volunteer, and one life at a time.

Donate today at mcsosar.org/donate and help us continue to serve.
