It’s cold out. It’s getting dark earlier and light later. We normally wait until the week before Thanksgiving for this, but we need it now. And so it is with great pleasure that tomorrow, Friday the 30th, we're rolling out the Clyde Holiday Drink Menu a few weeks early.
We love our holiday drink menu, and I love that it's become so beloved and important to so many people. I of course like to pretend that we make all drinks quite well, but let's be honest: our holiday drinks are the best drinks we do all year.
This is our eleventh year and I can't imagine the holidays without Tequila-Sherry Eggnog ever again. Or our incredible Hot Toddy that we developed back in 2009, too. Or the best Irish Coffee outside of the Buena Vista Café in San Francisco. And, of course, the relative newcomer, the now-famous Flannel Shirt, with fresh Oregon apple cider and Scotch whisky.
These drinks will be available, as always, through the end of the year. But launch weekend is always our favorite weekend, so we hope to see you tomorrow and Saturday for that first glass of Nog of the season. It's time.

One of the things that has always been a huge part of Clyde is our happy hour. We started doing happy hour when we first opened in 2007, and it was always one of the most important times of the day for us; a time when people could come together at the end of their work day, and get some quality time in before moving on to dinner either in our dining room, at home, or at one of our many wonderful neighbor restaurants.
We haven’t done happy hour since March 15th, sadly, because so much of this has been up in the air. But as we find our footing and expand our seating inside, we are thrilled to reintroduce happy hour to Clyde Tavern, but with a slight twist.
Instead of a limited menu of happy hour items, we’re proud to offer you everything we have to offer, each at a $2 discount. Every delicious bite of food, every spirit on our shelves, every bottle of wine, every cocktail, every beer. Everything we have is available for happy hour.
Happy hour at Clyde is from 3PM - 6PM, Wednesday through Saturday, starting today. We can’t wait to see you.

The White Negroni. We’ve had various versions foisted upon us in our travels throughout the years, but most of them never quite tasted right to us. Sure, they’re clear(ish) but none of them ever tasted like... a Negroni.
We set out to fix that problem for ourselves a few years ago but never made much of a deal about it. It was relatively easy to do, and by the time we felt like we’d perfected it, the White Negroni craze was all but over.
But since we’ve been easing up on ourselves since reopening as Clyde Tavern, we decided to bring the White Negroni back, this time as a slushy with fresh grapefruit juice.
It’s on the menu now, and we’re open Wednesday through Saturday, from 3PM until 8PM. We’d love to make you one or three.

Ugh. You guys, this year just won’t quit. We opened in a super limited way last night but we’ve decided that even doing takeout and delivery is too dangerous for us tonight.
So we’re are closed tonight and we will figure out tomorrow when it comes. These two faces are super bummed to not be seeing you tonight, having you all on our sidewalk has been such an incredible ray of light.
Our hearts go out to everyone affected by these wildfires, we are thinking of you and worried about you and hoping that you’re all safe. This, too, shall pass. But damn if it doesn’t feel like there’s no end in sight. We love you.

We’re back! In case you missed it, we’ve started opening the sidewalk up at 3PM, with some of ’s amazing dishes like this housemade spaghettini pasta with Calabrian chili, lemon, Dungeness crab and roasted corn. Open until 8PM for food and drink on the street, or for pickup and delivery!

Last week, after many conversations with each other, and a lot of planning, unplanning, and replanning, we quietly opened up a few tables on the sidewalk in front of Clyde for our friends and family. Nothing inside, unfortunately, because that's just not safe enough for us. But it was really nice to serve some drinks and food to our favorite people from a safe distance.
Today, we're going to put a few more tables out there because we miss you and would like to see you, too.
You can order from your table at our website, clydecommon.com, or you can come up to the window we've put in at the front door and order from there. We want this to be as safe and as comfortable as possible for you. Our tables are at least ten feet apart and the crew is following every precaution necessary to ensure a safe experience.
We're still doing food delivery through Caviar, but we're also making food available for pick-up, also through our website. So feel free to come down before your food is ready and have a drink outside with us. We'd really love to see you. We're here from 4PM-8PM Wednesday through Saturday (for now).

Clyde Tavern Burgers for days...
Did you know that we've been grinding our own beef for the famous Clyde burger (now back to its original delicious incarnation thanks to ) since we opened in 2007?
We take chuck and brisket from Cascade Natural Beef, grind it in-house and form the burger patties by hand (I know this process well, as Chris has put me to work on occasion).
And for the die-hard fans from way back, we now offer the original tomato jam as an add-on (on the side, just in case you also need to dip a fry) for just fifty cents.
The bar team has been splitting one of these guys almost nightly for the past thirteen years. If you want to see what the fuss is all about, check out our website (link is in our profile) for pick-up or delivery. We're open Wednesday-Saturday, from 4PM until 8PM, and we love being able to take care of you.

We've been having a great week so far getting you food and beverage for delivery and pickup, which we now do every Wednesday through Saturday. But tomorrow, July 4th, we've decided to give our intrepid band of volunteers the day off for the holiday.
It's a weird time for a holiday, to be honest with you. The country is in turmoil, the whole planet is on lockdown, and we're losing so many of our colleagues at bars and restaurants all over the world every day.
We're going to observe the national holiday the best way we know: with hot dogs. Hot dogs have always been a big part of our culture at Clyde. We stuffed ourselves full of them every July 4th when we were open. I would bring them in for staff meal from time to time. We just love them in all forms: veggie dogs, housemade sausages, and especially the ones made over at our sister's place: Olympia Provisions.
Here are a couple of my favorite dogs. This first one is from The Varsity in Atlanta, Georgia. A place I was finally able to visit around this time last year. They're known for their chili dogs, and especially for their peach pie. It’s incredible.
The second shot is from our friends at Pronto Pup here in Rockaway Beach, Oregon. They lay the claim to the invention of the corn dog over there, and given their mastery of the genre we're not going to contest that.
So be sure to get your to-go and delivery orders in tonight from 4PM-8PM, because tomorrow we'll all be standing in a backyard, ten feet apart, enjoying some hot dogs and each other's company. We'll see you again next Wednesday. @ Clyde Common

One last new entree this week! We love (and have always loved) Chris’ squid ink fideos with all our hearts, but we quickly learned they weren’t traveling super well due to the tiny size of that particular noodle. So Chris replaced it with another pasta that still scratches that itch.
We’re now making fresh spaghettini in-house and serving it with Calabrian chiles, charred squid, and scallops. It’s another one of those dishes that goes super well with summer weather, and rocks when paired alongside a radicchio salad and a bottle of rosé.
Tonight is our last night for the week, open as usual from 4PM until 8PM for pickup and delivery. You can do both from our website, ClydeCommon.com (I’m not gonna change the link in our profile just yet in case there are any more of you who simply *need* to watch that Bourbon Renewal video from yesterday 😂)
We will be back at it next Wednesday as usual! @ Downtown Portland
So many people have reached out and asked if we're open for food and drinks yet, or if we'll be open soon. The very honest answer is that we don't know yet. We don't feel ready to be open right now because we want to make sure we do it in the best, safest, healthiest, and most enjoyable way - for you, and for our intrepid little band of bartenders (and one chef) who are working here every day getting the space ready for you.
We really hope that the State of Oregon will allow us to serve our delicious cocktails to go soon, because we really miss being back there and making drinks in whatever capacity we can. But unfortunately, that hasn't happened yet, and so I thought I'd share the next best thing: making some of our favorite Clyde Common cocktails at home.
The Bourbon Renewal is a drink I came up with back when I lived in Eugene, sometime around 2001. I'd just learned about creme de cassis and was putting it in everything - such as a whiskey sour. It was one of the first drinks I put on the menu at Clyde back in 2009, and it has been our most popular drink ever since.
Our friends over at The Daily Beast, in conjunction with let me film this fun little video showing you how to make the Renewal at home. I'll throw a link in our profile to the full video, and I hope you enjoy it! We'll be back again tonight from 4PM-8PM for takeout and delivery, and we do have draft beer, draft cider, and bottles of wine available for pickup!

More new menu items this week! I was first introduced to Little Gem lettuce nearly a decade ago from our chef and have been in love with them ever since.
I remember not being quite smart enough to understand what he meant when he described them to me for the first time, which is tough when a big part of your job as a bartender in a restaurant is answering questions about the food.
But after serving them to so many delighted guests over the years and certainly after having prepared them at home myself, I can say that how I think of them is as a sort of cross between the crunchiness of romaine lettuce, mixed with that soft, dark green vibe of butter leaf lettuce. So basically two of my favorites in one.
Chris is serving it with a buttermilk-tarragon dressing, shaved radishes, and these pillowy-soft, yet very crunchy-on-the-outside croutons that makes the whole thing my new favorite salad of the summer. We'll be back at it from 4PM until 8PM tonight, and big thanks to everyone who helped make last night our busiest one yet! This team likes to work, and we love working together.

New menu items this week! It's me , as usual these days. I love my job right now: I get to talk to about what he's working on for the menu, I get to photograph his delicious food, and then when that's all over I get to sit around and eat it. Not a bad gig to be honest.
Chris says he'd never heard of dirty fries before he moved to Portland in 2009. But after a whopping five whole minutes of internet research on my part, it seems like putting a bunch of cheese and other stuff on french fries is probably about as old as the french fry itself. I wouldn't doubt, however, that Portland played some small part in the elevation of the dirty fry, and Chris has taken that and mastered it even further.
Our Sugo Fries are covered in our house lamb/pork sugo, pickled anaheim peppers, chevre, cheddar, and grana padano cheeses, and finished with green onions and herbs. They're decadent, but they're also surprisingly light for this weather.
Clyde Tavern Sugo Fries are available starting today from 4PM until 8PM for pickup and delivery. They also go AMAZINGLY well with a quart of Anthem Cider, and of course I say this from experience. Link to our website for ordering is in our profile, we look forward to taking care of you!
