Proper Beer Line Cleaning Matters—for Taste, Reputation, and Profits! 🍺🫧

Commercial beer line cleaning isn’t just a best practice—it’s essential. Brewers invest significant time and care into crafting high-quality beer, but all that effort can be lost the moment it passes through a dirty line. Poor line maintenance can affect flavor, hurt your reputation, and ultimately impact your bottom line.

Following proper cleaning procedures is critical for any business to succeed. Sticking to, at the very least, a bi-weekly cleaning schedule helps ensure every pour is as fresh and safe as intended.

Here are a few key steps to keep your beer lines clean and your customers happy:

✅ Establish a consistent maintenance schedule - every 2 weeks
✅ Use effective, Micro Matic brewery-recommended cleaning chemicals
✅ Invest in a high-quality electric recirculating pump for deep cleaning
✅ Make sure to thoroughly clean couplers, faucets, etc.

Don’t underestimate the impact of well-maintained beer lines. It’s not just about profits—it’s also about delivering a great experience and ensuring the safety of your customers.

Congratulations to the opening of Pfriem’s new Milwaukie taproom! We had the pleasure to work with them on their draft systems. We built a 22 product glycol system in The Bears Den using custom pipe tower from Micro Matic. There is also a 22 beer and 5 cocktails on draft both upstairs and downstairs in the main restaurant. We used industry leading cocktail mixing bases from Micro Matic that ensure balanced cocktails are delivered on each pour. Our favorite part of the project was using the original historic fire pole to dispense beer out of. We used Czech side pull faucets with a custom modification to make this possible.

Proper beer line cleaning is crucial to maintaining the quality and taste of your draft beer. Over time, yeast, mold, beer stones, and bacteria can accumulate, negatively effecting flavor, appearance, and overall beer quality. Regular beer cleaning at least once every two weeks prevents these enemies from harming your system and ensures optimal performance. At Northwest Draft Technicians we use industry leading cleaning chemicals from Micro Matic.

Check out a new project with our friends over building another Isuzu beer truck. There are plenty of final touches that the team at Summit are working on and we’ll be sure to share. The truck will dispense 8 beers and any of the lines can we converted to pour nitrogen products. We came up with a mobile glass rinser that can be used at anytime. We also included the equipment and documentation for beer line cleaning so that the beer is always fresh. Stay tunned for more updates on this project.

Regular cleaning of the faucet, beer hose, and keg coupler are critical since beer is an excellent food for bacteria. Bacteria eat beer, digests it, and eventually secretes a biofilm that adheres and layers on the systems inside surfaces (anaerobic environment). If not cleaned regularly (every 14-days), the bacteria will directly impact the beer’s flavor and appearance. Additionally, bacteria, yeast, mold, and beer stone will accumulate quickly on all surfaces, degrading draft beer quality and eventually causing dispensing problems.

Cleaning beer lines requires a cleaning pump capable of circulating chemicals at a 2 gallon per minute flow rate. Overtime the cleaning pumps need to be rebuilt and Casey from our team is making sure we have back ups on the shelf. We use the micromatic stadium pumps and stock replacement parts for any repairs needed.
