Today marks a bittersweet moment at the Oregon Convention Center as we celebrate the retirement of Julie DeWeese.
Julie has been with OCC since before the building even stood. As the second person ever hired, she’s played a critical role in shaping our success over the past 38 years — helping fill our calendar, supporting countless events, and contributing to the growth of both our venue and the Portland community. Her steadfast presence, deep knowledge, and unwavering commitment have made her a trusted colleague, a mentor, and a friend to many. Julie has truly seen it all — and helped make it all happen.
While we’re excited for Julie to begin her next chapter (filled with well-deserved rest, joy, and fun!), her presence here will be deeply missed. It’s not every day you say goodbye to someone who helped build the foundation — quite literally — of your organization.
Please join us in celebrating Julie’s legacy and incredible contribution to OCC. Thank you, Julie — for everything.

The Oregon Convention Center is illuminated in orange tonight through Sunday in recognition of National Gun Violence Awareness Day, joining thousands of people and landmarks across the country.
We invite everyone to from June 6–8 to honor those lost to gun violence and stand in solidarity with survivors. Wear Orange honors the 125 people shot and killed each day in the United States, the hundreds more who are wounded, and the countless lives forever changed by gun violence.
Join us by wearing orange and helping raise awareness. Together, we can work toward a safer future.

We're building on our success in 2023 as the first convention center to partner with a reuse service provider, and we're excited to take the next step in 2025!
In collaboration with Bold Reuse, Levy Restaurants, and PepsiCo, the Oregon Convention Center (OCC) is expanding our waste diversion efforts by introducing reusable soda cups and food baskets at our primary restaurants and cafes. This new initiative will double the volume of reusables at OCC, reinforcing our commitment to making sustainable, reusable solutions accessible in high-traffic event spaces.
Together, we’re making a big impact on reducing waste and promoting a more sustainable future! ♻️
