Bending Spoons Strikes Again!

$480 to $19,900 a year. Not a typo.

I've used Evernote since 2009. In 2020 Brittany and I upgraded to Teams so we could share and edit studio notes together. $480 a year. Thousands of notes. Bending Spoons bought Evernote and this year killed the Teams plan. The only equivalent is Enterprise Unlimited - $19,900 a year. They auto-enroll you May 12th if you do nothing.

This is the second time BS has done this to me.

I was with WeTransfer from inception. Bending Spoons bought it, made some improvements, then last summer buried an AI clause in the terms that caused massive backlash - then jacked prices a couple weeks later. Forced me to Dropbox and Samply. Samply is perfect for how I send streaming masters and MP3s to artists.

Second time they burned one of their loyal users. Both times I started over. Both times I found something better.

Pressure test! As an all-things-tinkerer type person, I dove into a DIY minisplit install with a pile of tools I’ve never used before.. 300psi held for over 90 minutes, the vacuum stayed locked at 100 microns, and I’m happy to say the system is running like a champ. There were definitely some challenges along the way, which makes basking in its comfort all the more satisfying.

Nothing beats the sound of new old stock tubes.
This might be my favorite combination so far: late-’50s Telefunken red-tips from West Germany (medical-grade, tightest specs) along with early-’60s Bugle Boys from France and mid-’60s GEs from the U.S. for flavor. The rest in the non-critical audio paths are modern Golden Lions and Telefunkens.
NOS tubes test like new, but they’re time capsules from a bygone (and toxic) era of craftsmanship. Modern tubes - and certainly digital emulations - still don’t quite capture the dimensionality of well preserved vintage glass.
