Portland Finnish School

Finnish School year 2025-26 is a wrap! Kiitos to all, who were actively part of making it happen. Iloista kesää! Happy summer! We will kick off the new school year in September.

Friday evening was exciting! Partnering together with and to celebrate the Moomin exhibit and learn more about Tove Jansson (the creator of Moomin). We are so thankful for the community partners we have around us! Kiitos! Kiitos also to also, who joined us on the Friday night adventure to dip into the world of Tove Jansson. It was a fun evening together!

Two weeks ago we had such a blast celebrating vappu! It is hard to believe that today is the last “school day”. Luckily we have the annual summer picnic still😍

What a fun way to start the day with a bilingual Moomin story time! Yesterday was the first free story time and more will follow. 😉

Last Saturday we had another fun day in all groups. 🤩 Our bigger kids joined the forces again to finish their alternative Kalevala animations. Weather was great for outdoor fun in between. Kiitos to all, who made the day filled with fun. 💙🇫🇮

Last Saturday we got to enjoy the amazing Finnish sauna family hang out Koti Sauna and after sauna we got to enjoy Casey Schissler performing musical story of sauna tonttu (sauna elf). We all were left with a big smile on our faces and hearts. This sauna focused community event (thanks to Suomi-Seura) melted our Suomi-koulu community even tighter together. Last week on 6th December we celebrated Finnish Independence Day & Joulu (Christmas/ holidays) together. We had our own Me and Mrs Stubb welcoming all to the celebrations. 💙 The honorary consul visited us and talked little bit about why and how we celebrate Finnish Independence Day. Biggest surprise was the visit of joulupukki (the Finnish Santa). ❤️ Our joulu potluck had all the tastes and flavors of the season made with ❤️. Now the holidays can come and part of that is ScanFair. 😍
