That’s a wrap on Clean Water Week!

We closed out the week with a special screening of Unless Something Goes Terribly Wrong, a documentary about Portland’s East End Wastewater Treatment Facility and the essential work that protects Casco Bay every day.

Thank you to the City of Portland, and Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District for partnering with us on this event and for helping lead an engaging panel discussion about clean water, wastewater treatment, and environmental stewardship.

Special thanks to , Alex Lewis and the Portland Museum of Art for generously donating their time and venue to help bring this important conversation to the community.

Clean water takes all of us. We’re grateful to everyone who joined us, asked questions, and helped celebrate the people and partnerships that protect public health and the environment.

Clean Water Week Spotlight

This Clean Water Week, we're recognizing the dedicated wastewater professionals who work around the clock to protect public health and the environment.

Every day, our wastewater team collects and treats millions of gallons of wastewater before it is safely returned to the environment, helping protect our waterways, communities, and ultimately, Casco Bay.

Their work may happen behind the scenes, but its impact is felt throughout our region.

Please join us in thanking the hardworking team members who keep our wastewater systems running safely and reliably every day. 👏

💧Clean Water Week in Action! 💧

This week, Portland Water District staff teamed up with the City of Portland, Maine to stencil storm drains throughout the community. These reminders help raise awareness that storm drains flow directly into our local waterways — meaning anything that enters a drain can end up in streams, rivers, and ultimately Casco Bay.

A big thank you to our volunteers who spent time outdoors helping spread an important message.

Small actions make a big difference when it comes to protecting clean water.

Together, we're helping keep our waterways healthy for everyone.

This World Oceans Day, we’re celebrating Casco Bay.

At Portland Water District, our work doesn't end when water leaves your home. Every day, our wastewater professionals work to clean and treat millions of gallons of wastewater before returning it safely to the environment.

That treated water flows into Casco Bay—a treasured resource that supports marine life, recreation, and the communities that call Maine's coast home.

As we celebrate Clean Water Week and World Oceans Day, we're proud to do our part to help protect the waters that connect us all.

💧Clean Water Week is Here!💧

The first full week of June is Clean Water Week in Maine, a time to celebrate the progress that's been made in protecting and improving the quality of our waterways. It's also an opportunity to recognize the essential work that happens every day to safeguard public health and the environment.

At Portland Water District, we're proud to mark the occasion by opening our doors and inviting the community to learn more about what happens after water goes down the drain. From the science behind wastewater treatment to the people who make it all happen, there's a lot to discover behind the scenes.

Spots are filling fast, but we still have room for our monthly East End Wastewater Treatment Facility Tour on Tuesday, June 9th, and additional Clean Water Week Tours on June 17th.

Whether you've always wondered what happens after you flush or simply want a deeper appreciation for the systems that keep our environment healthy, we'd love to show you around.
