Megabeta Climbing
Technical high-performance bags for urban climbers
Here’s what the Totepack is NOT for: hauling your full rope + rack + two pairs of shoes up to a multipitch. It’s not pretending to be a haul bag.
Here’s what it was built for: laptop, lead rope, harness, and shoes. To the gym and back, without the daily wrestling match.
We got tired of climbing bags that try to do everything and end up doing none of it well.
So we built one around the actual problem: getting your gear (and your funky shoes) from your day to the wall and home again.
A few things we’re proud of:
— Two water bottle holders. Most climbing bags have room for zero, which is genuinely wild.
— An activated carbon liner, so your shoes don’t turn the whole bag into a funk zone.
— Converts tote-to-backpack in one move, for when your hands fill up.
Try it for 60 days. If it’s not your bag, free returns.
The fascinating research I just read is that proximity is a performance enhancer.
Sitting within 20 feet of a high performer increases your performance by 15%.
But on the flip side sitting near a low performer causes a 30% decline.
The caveat is that this research was about office workers, so I don’t have any evidence that it works for climbers except that it’s proven true in my own experience.
Try it for yourself!
(Also for the record this problem went next try, just filmed that attempt at a weird angle...)
I cut the totepack open to show you the inside organization and our fancy liner material.
Yep, this bag is much less functional now… but it was worth it!
What is a smell proof liner?
This bag liner material is called activated carbon cloth.
The carbon is processed like corn kernels are turned into popcorn, which dramatically increases the surface area.
And that surface area sponges away moisture and filters out bacteria that might create odors.
And for climbers this material helps wick moisture away from your shoes and prevents odors before they start.
Also works to put activated carbon inserts into your shoes!
…
For some the carabiner is the answer.
For others… well, maybe I should have just shoved the banana into my shoe!
Fully admitting to this reused video but barely any followers saw it and I think it’s great!
Gotta get those snacks so you can send hard!
But seriously, nutritionists recommend a snack if you’re session lasts over an hour so make sure you have something ready.
Also Oreos are vegan. Just sayin
The carabiner method works until it doesn’t.
Specifically: until you try to bring a snack.
Asking for a friend who certainly didn’t spend 30 minutes trying to attack at banana to a carabiner last weekend…
Chasing the challenge is great but it’s also nice to forget the grade sometimes and just enjoy!
Finding the balance of struggle and fun keeps climbing a lifelong sport.
Everything I need for a productive climbing session fits in this bag! And my chalk stays off the ground…
The Megabeta Sling fits your shoes, harness, chalk, snacks, and phone, all in the right pocket, not floating in some black hole at the bottom of a bag.
