Tonight on Subculture, we’re digging into the sound of college radio — R.E.M., Pixies, The Replacements, Hüsker Dü, Throwing Muses, The dB’s, Dinosaur Jr., Camper Van Beethoven and more.

And yes, some of these songs are pretty well known now. But a lot of them are well known because college and community radio gave them a place to be heard before commercial radio caught up.

That feels especially fitting for us at PRP, where supporting independent artists and playing music outside the usual commercial lanes is a huge part of what we do.

I won’t be live tonight — I’m heading to Music Trivia at The Record Pub, where PRP is helping power their new Wednesday trivia night — but I’ve got a full hour ready to go.
