Youth, Rights & Justice advances the rights of children, parents, and families through advocacy in the courts, schools, legislature, and community.
Thank you for hosting the Wear Orange Block Party and our community partners for inviting YRJ to attend. We wear orange to honor Hadiya Pendleton and the nearly 130 people killed each day in the U.S. by guns. We also honor survivors and gather in community to elevate their voices and those of advocates. Thank you for creating more peace and safety for our community!

Today is National Gun Violence Awareness Day and this weekend is Wear Orange Weekend.

What: Wear Orange Block Party
When: Sunday, June 7, Noon–3 pm
Where: SE 135th Ave & SE Mill St
Why: Why wear orange? The color orange cannot be ignored, just like America’s gun violence crisis. We wear orange to call attention to our nation’s preventable gun violence crisis, which takes nearly 47,000 lives every single year. Learn more -> 🍊➡️ wearorange.org
Happy Gaultiversary! Each May we celebrate Gault Day, which marks the date of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling In Re Gault, in 1967, when the court held that children were “persons” under the U.S. Constitution. This ruling meant that kids subject to juvenile court proceedings had the same rights as adults, including notice of the charges against them, privilege against self-incrimination, right to counsel, and more. As juvenile defenders and advocates, YRJ continues to defend and uphold the rights of children, and celebrates this important decision!
