Finished my stained glass class a couple weeks ago and had to repurpose my over complicated project into two smaller projects but I still had a fun time! 🌸

A little book I started as an example for an art camp last year, and finished up at another camp this year! Its crazy to think that my best friends will be up in Maine in about a month from now ❤️

Ignore the quality of the paper! I was using cheaper paper for this book and didn’t expect it to spiral into something so important to me :-)

Messenger Between Two Worlds, 2025, watercolor, color pencil, and ink, 8x10in.

In November 22nd of 2022, I remember sitting in my car that was parked next to the USM silo, having just gotten out of my class when I received a phone call. My grandmother was on the other end, crying as she just was told that her ovarian cancer was terminal after finishing her chemotherapy treatment and was given a few months left to live. She was one of the strongest women I knew, and this news devastated my family. Months went by, and we had frequent visitors spending their time at our house, trying to make the best of what little time we had left with her.

August of 2023 came around, and she was becoming less mobile and she was having more pain as she continued to fight. She had stopped chemotherapy, as the side effects increasingly became worse. My dad was outside and sent me a video that month of a peculiar visitor. A great blue heron, perched right on the roof of our home, on the eaves of my bedroom.

Blue Heron are not common in my area, and I’ve never seen one before this - let alone one perched on our house. I discovered, that herons are associated with death and transition, especially in Irish folklore (which that part of my family has connections to). I felt the birds presence as a comfort; it was letting us know that she was protected and that she had a guide waiting for her when the time came. My grandmother passed away in her sleep peacefully a few months later, in November.

I hope you all can feel the comforting presence of the heron as I did through this piece.

“Chromatic Forms”, 2025, watercolor, ink, and color pencil, 18x24in.

I haven’t made a full painting in a while and this piece was originally for me to just mess around. Yet, it became something with deeper meaning and emotion as I kept working. 🩵

🌑 새해 복 많이 받으세요! 🌑
Happy Seollal/Lunar New Year! ❤️🐍🧧

It is the year of the wood snake, and it is time to shed off bad energy and renew ourselves. This year I decided to make a greeting card for the holiday as I am attempting to slither into a year full of creativity and happiness.

I celebrated early on Sunday with the Korean Language School and we made mandu and ate a lot of good food and dressed in traditional clothing called hanbok. (Last two pictures)

Today, I celebrated with my grandmother who made the food in the second slide. We also ate tteok-guk, a traditional rice cake soup that is associated with this holiday.

Whether you call it Seollal, Lunar New Year, Chinese New Year, or anything else… I hope that this year is abundant in joy, good health, and opportunities for you all.

🌟 What are your goals for the year? 🌟
This year rather than setting “resolutions”, I’m setting attainable goals.
I’d like to:
- continue with frequent exercise
- drink more water
- create more art, even if not all of it is great

I hope you are all having a good start to the year and that you’re taking care of yourselves amidst all of the sickness going around as well as lack of sunlight ❤️
