Feed the Mass
Feed the Mass fights food insecurity in Portland by empowering, educating, and serving the community.
We develop, cook, and serve thousands of healthy meals each week. Our educational programs teach people to make informed, conscious nutritional choices.
This summer, we’re giving young people the chance to learn, create, and grow in the kitchen.
The Feed the Mass Summer Youth Culinary Program is a 9-week hands-on cooking experience for youth ages 11–18. Participants will learn practical kitchen skills, explore foods and flavors from different cultures, and build confidence through guided cooking classes in a supportive community environment.
Classes take place every Wednesday from June 24 through August 19, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM.
Parents are welcome to stay and be part of the experience.
Spots are limited. Visit www.feedthemass.org/summer.

In Oregon, nearly 1 in 8 people experience food insecurity, and for children, that number rises to 1 in 6. Too many kids are growing up without consistent access to the meals they need to thrive.
At Feed the Mass, this is why we do this work every single day. Through community meals, partnerships, volunteers, and the support of people who care, we’re helping make sure kids and families have access to nourishing food and a community that shows up for them. We’re also proud of our collaborations with organizations like HOLLA and Tucker Maxon School as we continue working together to support local youth and families.

Some of the best moments at Feed the Mass happen around the table with conversations shared, meals enjoyed, and community built one plate at a time.
A special thank you to Chef Fatou from Akadi and Horizon Christian School for visiting our Nourish Kitchen. It was an amazing experience hearing Chef Fatou share stories about food from her homeland and the culture and connection that can be created through cooking. We’re always excited to create opportunities for learning, conversation, and community through food.
We’re grateful to continue doing this work alongside people who care deeply about showing up for one another. Whether you’ve volunteered, donated, partnered with us, or simply supported from afar, thank you for being part of the journey.
In this video, our Kitchen Lead Quin shares important tips on safely handling hot items and surfaces while working in a fast-paced kitchen environment. From using proper protection to staying aware around stoves, ovens, and hot pans, these small habits help keep our team safe every day.
A safe kitchen helps us continue serving the community with care, consistency, and confidence.

Today we’re shining a spotlight on Stella!
Stella joined Feed the Mass after training with Stone Soup PDX and has become an important part of our kitchen team through her hard work, positive energy, and dedication to the community we serve.
Outside of the kitchen, Stella has a passion for bouldering. Recently, she placed 1st in her very first competition. What an incredible achievement!
We’re grateful to have Stella on the Feed the Mass team and proud to celebrate all that she brings to our community.

Building strong relationships with schools and students in our community is something we truly value at Feed the Mass. We were honored to visit Franklin High School and donate meals for their Harvest Festival, helping bring people together over good food and community connection.
A special thank you to Janina Butler, SUN Site Supervisor, for sharing her gratitude and speaking about the impact these meals have on students and families. Partnerships like these remind us how powerful community support can be when we come together.
We look forward to continuing to collaborate with local schools and creating meaningful moments throughout Portland.

Last May’s Community Table event at Redd on Salmon was a beautiful reminder of what happens when community comes together over a shared meal. From great conversations to incredible food, the energy in the room was something special.
We’re grateful to everyone who showed up, connected, and helped make the night such an amazing turnout. Events like these continue to show the power of gathering, sharing stories, and building community through food.
This is only the beginning and we’re excited for more Community Table events in the future. Stay tuned.
