Content warning: Stroke details and new single release date
Almost to the minute one year ago I was shooting the cover art for my next single “Trouble”. Shortly after this photo was taken, I had a dissection of my right carotid artery caused by Fibromuscular Dysplasia (and climbing a tree). This caused an ischemic stroke. Thankfully my wonderful girlfriend called 911 as soon as I started acting strangely. A clot buster shot was administered within 20 minutes of the incident. And that certainly saved my life. I spent the next few days in the hospital I kept arguing with the doctors saying I was fine and that I wanted to go home. I wasn’t fine. They would have me close my eyes and lift both legs and then both arms. It felt as though I was doing this with ease but in reality, the left side wasn’t coming up much if at all in the first 24 hours. Over the next day or two my strength started returning, so they let me go and stay at my mother's. With a weight lifting limit and I wasn’t allowed to belt big long high notes. On my first day home I was able to play guitar and sing a little which was reassuring. There was always this bit of disconnect between how I felt and what my body could do. I wanted to jump right back into playing shows and living my life. it took some time for my left hand to remember how to play all of the songs I know and it still has "trouble" with a few songs one year later.
Speaking of songs I'll be releasing this song Trouble on June 21st, 2024 that I wrote with Jordan Brooks Mike Maurice. and Alex Calabrese (Old Tom & The Lookouts) a few years back.
As I'm writing this I'm finding that there are so many people that I'm so grateful for with all of their support.
Hannah Jenkins, Susan Grace Naomi Grace McNeill Ed McCurdy Sonja R. A. Leighton Adam Neil Hanson Clay Shanks Danny Rand Jonathan Clement Stuart Mason Gurley Jonathan Moore Steve Dennis Alex Thomas Lucas David Thomas Clukey and many many more
It's been a wild year. I'm looking forward to more music. I can't wait to share this song with you all!
I'll post a sneak peek and a list of folks on the song soon!
