We have been building this small but mighty gleaning nonprofit up from the dust to tackle this harvest season. As the kids say; we're in this for the gains πͺ and we are killing it so far! We love data over here and wanted to share some of what's been going on since January.
The chart says a thousand words, but let's add a few more. So far this year, we have seen Fruit Fridge (and veggie!π«π§π§
π₯π₯) drop off donations soar. Nearly all of the 422lbs of produce donated since January has come from Fruit Fridge self harvest drop offs. The rest has been herbs and rhubarb harvested from community orchards in advance of fruit season.
π€ Do you have a garden with more rhubarb, herbs, snap peas, or lettuce than you can pawn off on neighbors? Consider dropping it off at the East Side Fruit Fridge located at our office by Alberta Park ANY day or time that works for you!
Donated produce is picked up by Lift Urban Portland or .houseofworship and incorporated into their food pantries. That means that if you only have a few heads of lettuce or a pile of oregano, that's okay! There's nothing too small - or if you're a bigger grower (even a farm), there's nothing too big!
We are thrilled to be off to a record breaking start of the year, and are preparing orchards, supplies, vehicles, and our volunteer workforce for a mighty 2026 - won't you join us to ? π₯°πππ
We would like to give very special thanks to .co for this awesome gift, it will help us save a lot of fruit this year! Has anyone here tried tree netting? We would love to hear about your experiences!
πCherry season seems to sneak up on our urban orchard tree owners, even those with the best of intentions π€
This year, we don't just want extra fruit to augment the supplies given to our pantry partners we NEED extra fruit, to augment a dwidling in support from the powers that be in our nation.
Check your cherries and register your trees for harvesting ://portlandfruit.org/request-a-harvest/ and let's get this record breaking harvest year in our urban orchard off to the races!
Huge shout out to businesses that support local nonprofits... like our friends at the .... the "Fruit of the Month" raffle package is a hot ticket item, and that ticket is JUST $5. ππ
Grab some tickets, just a few more days until we draw a WINNER on May 30th.
πNOW is the time.
To put it another way: πThe TIME is NOW! π
