Introducing our August series: The Science of Sound.
Every week this month we'll be diving into what music actually does to the human brain and body. Spoiler: it's a lot.
We're kicking things off with this: music is processed almost everywhere across the brain, and it actively helps regulate your Autonomic Nervous System - the system that manages your heartbeat, breathing, and stress response.
That's why a slow song calms you down. That's why a driving beat gets you moving. And that's why playing an instrument can literally change the size of your brain.
Music teachers already knew this. Now there's science to back it up.
Follow along all month. It only gets more interesting from here.

A teacher sent us this photo as a thank you, sharing just how much her students loved Music Workshop. In it, a young student is dressed as our very own Maestro, standing in front of their classroom.
This is why we do what we do. Not just to deliver lessons, but to spark something in students - a sense of belonging, a love of music, a feeling that they are part of something bigger than themselves.
Behind Music Workshop is a community. And moments like this remind us that it reaches further than we ever imagined.
Has Music Workshop inspired a moment like this in your classroom? We would love to hear about it in the comments.

Good PD respects your time. Music Workshop's does exactly that.
A PreK-8 general music teacher described our professional development courses as packed with visual graphs, on-point videos, and brief but thorough information - the kind of content you find yourself coming back to again and again.
That's what we set out to build. Practical, well-crafted PD that actually sticks.
Free for all teachers, online and self-paced. Create a free account or log in at musicworkshop.org.

This photo marks the moment that made our Culture Series possible.
Music Workshop received a grant from the Spirit Mountain Community Fund to create our first Culture Series course: Native American Traditional Music. It is a course we are deeply proud of - beautiful, respectful, and designed to bring Indigenous musical traditions to students who might never encounter them otherwise.
That first course opened the door to an entire series that now brings the music of cultures from around the world into classrooms everywhere. And it all started here, with one generous grant and one powerful belief that every culture's music deserves to be heard.
Thank you, Spirit Mountain Community Fund. We have never forgotten where this began.

Ever wonder what's happening in the classroom while the lesson video plays?
Every Music Workshop lesson comes with a Q&A Sheet — it tells teachers exactly when to pause, what to ask (answers included!), and when it's time for students to get up and move.
Free with every lesson. Just press play and go.

Music is one of the most powerful tools a teacher can have - and you don't need to be a music specialist to use it.
Music Workshop's professional development teaches both music educators and general classroom teachers how to bring music into their classroom intentionally, as a tool for engagement, connection, and student growth.
Online. Self-paced. Free for every teacher.
