Rutabagas are versatile, affordable, and easy to use alongside foods many households already cook with—like potatoes, cabbage, onions, and garlic.
We’ve created a simple, front and back Rutabaga Fact Sheet with: • Easy prep tips
• Everyday cooking ideas
• Nutrition basics
• How rutabaga supports long term health

You can find the full fact sheet on our Food as Medicine page at

Why have we allowed Food to be made a political issue? Feeding people is clearly a humanitarian matter and reflects who we truly are as a society.
Hand Up Project is celebrating 10 years as Portland’s only q***r led public food assistance program providing a safe, non-judgmental space for everyone to access food services, and right now we’re busier than ever at the pantry.

Last year we lost 40% of our food supply coming from the Oregon Food Bank due to frozen federal funding, all while the need in our community continues to rise. Even now as changes to public benefits roll out people are being pushed off SNAP one by one, and more families are turning to community food programs just to get by.

On the brighter side, as a partner agency with the Oregon Food Bank, Hand Up Project enjoys their wholesale purchasing power stretching your support even further. Right now, we can source essentials like peanut butter for $1.42 a jar. That means every dollar you give stretches into more meals on more tables.

When our government fails us it’s up to “We the People” to “Feed the Family!” Consider joining the resistance and helping us hold the line by joining our monthly supporters. A group we lovingly refer to as our “Food Fairies”. For as little as the price of a coffee, a meal, or even a night out once a month, you can make a difference keeping our shelves stocked, our doors open and the family fed.

Join us today. Visit handupproject.org to learn more. Check our “give-us-a-hand” page and join our Food Fairies today. There are lots of ways to help. It truly takes a village to feed the family.

🌈✨ Thank You, Clover Soapworks! ✨🌈

Hand Up Project sends a huge wave of gratitude to our friends at Clover Soapworks for their generous cash donation!

Your support directly strengthens The People’s Pantry and helps us continue providing dignified, culturally affirming access to nutritious food for our Q***r and BIPOC communities.

In moments when federal support is unstable and the need is rising, partners like you make all the difference. Your contribution helps us “feed the family,” sustain our operations, and continue holding space for joy, dignity, and community care.

Thank you, Clover Soapworks, for investing in equity, nourishment, and community resilience.

We appreciate you! 💚🧼🌿
