What does a nerve actually look like? Hopefully the picture will help you visualise the the complexity of the nervous system.

It is estimated that once a nerve have been injured (neurapraxia) it slowly heals at a rate of 1mm per day. However injury times can vary depending on the degree of injury (the amount or irritation, compression or pressure) And overall health of the individual.

For example a simple nerve root injury of the lower back (sciatica) can take anywhere from 6 weeks to over 3-4months to settle given the right environment to heal (i.e. Correcting muscle imbalances, exercises to help the nerve to move or a cominbination of these with GP prescribed medication).

However, be patient and be reassured that very few nerve injuries require surgery and will slowly heal themselves.
