Had such a great time at the Dark Market yesterday. Met lots of new people, saw a few old faces, matched books to readers, talked a little cinema, and even got some new recommends to check out. Catch you all at the next one. 🥲

When King Shot was launched in 2014, I only wanted to shine a light on the rare kinds of writing I loved, most of which seemed homeless, scattered back then. I didn’t realize this could keep going, that I’d get to meet and collaborate (and sometimes get into trouble) with so many brilliant writers, editors, and designers.

This dark flame turns 10 next year. And these next few books might just be the final run. Forever grateful to everyone who’s followed along, has given us a chance, may take a chance on these writers someday. Together we’re gonna give the new s**t our all and see where things land. The next time this account gets updated, it’ll be with book announcements, event dates, and more. We’ll see you there. 🖤

We turned 8 over the weekend! It’s been a wild and beautiful ride. While another 80 years would be a stretch for us, we really do appreciate the continued support while we continue to learn, f**k up, and grow. We love you.

Been quietly working on a lot of stuff. But we’d appreciate some opinions:

Do you prefer when a publisher releases books with matching covers? Thinking of our 2016 DIY box set, or various Penguin sets throughout the years.

Or do you prefer each release looking totally different? (Which is how we’ve typically done it.)

It’s been a little while…

Waiting on cover approvals and working on copy/kits for books, meaning: it looks like our hiatus is finally over. It’s been two years since our last release, three since we announced a slate.

The new stuff won’t be for everyone.

Teaching our newest intern the ropes today. She will be handling all publicity going forward, so I am showing her how spreadsheets work! Say hello to Piper!!
