Today, June 16, we observe the International Day of the African Child.

This day honors the children of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, who stood against poor-quality education and the forced use of Afrikaans in schools. Many were killed, and since 1991, this day has raised awareness about education and child welfare across Africa.

At Harambee Centre, we continue this mission by supporting scholarships for children in rural Kenya and Uganda, preparing tomorrow’s African leaders. Please consider donating today to support this important work.

Congratulations to our board member, Dr. Jennifer Nattabi, who recently earned her PhD in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis. We are grateful to Jennifer for her service to Harambee.

Annual Harambee Benefit Dinner Today!! We invite you to join us for an evening of African food and drumming, and to hear about the projects we have been working on this past year. The event is from 6-8pm (with doors opening at 5:30pm) at Lake Grove Presbyterian Church. If you are unable to attend the event, we invite you to donate using the link in our bio.

Our scholars in Uganda spent time reflecting on their lessons with Grace Kuto’s book “Be the Gift, Be the Light.”

East African Trip - 2024

A small contingent from the Southridge High School traveled to Uganda and Kenya as part of the cultural exchange with the sister school in Uganda, and also to look at future sister schools in Kenya.

The Southridge club brought computers and projectors that were donated by the school.
