Thank you to Oregon Cultural Trust for helping to make "Whispers of Desire" next weekend happen!
We are proud to highlight the work of In Mulieribus as they present "Sappho: Whispers of Desire," a deep dive into the lyrical fragments of Sappho, the ancient Greek poet whose work has influenced literature for millennia. By setting these ancient texts to modern compositions, this Portland-based vocal ensemble bridges the gap between antiquity and today.
Through our statewide funding model, we are able to support those extra layers that turn a performance into a community experience:
🎶 Pre-concert talks: Diving into the history and translation of Sappho’s poetry.
🎶 Post-concert engagement: Space for audiences to discuss the themes of desire, identity and historical memory.
The Oregon Cultural Trust's mission is to foster civic dialogue and lifelong learning. By pooling our resources, we ensure that Oregonians have access to sophisticated cultural programs that invite us to think, talk and connect.
