MEET THE BAND, Part 7: Mat Zaro (lead vocals)
Mat Zaro is the creative force that got portBOWIE started. He grew up in Pittsfield, ME and studied in the University of Maine at Augusta's Jazz and Contemporary Music program, and has been a part of Portland’s music scene since the early 2000’s. He was the lead vocalist for the Bob Charest Band for nearly two decades and is now the lead singer for the wedding/function band Plush. Zaro is also the lead vocalist for Eclipse - A Tribute to Pink Floyd and was the founder of the experimental Portland group Bass Box. He hopes someday to ride on the back of mighty Falkor and vanquish his enemies from above. He enjoys Star Wars, cheeseburgers, and long walks on the beach.
Singing David Bowie songs is no easy feat - especially considering the breadth of Bowie's career and the range of his vocals. Mat handles it with great skill - which will be on display at Vinegar Hill Music Theatre next Thursday, June 4! (Link in comments)
Two weeks from tonight!!!
