MIKE’ Program's mission is to educate and mentor underserved students to lead healthy lives personally, in their school community, and beyond.

MIKE Program is a Portland nonprofit organization that is building lifelong opportunities for underserved youth, by guiding youth toward healthy lifestyles, equipping youth and their mentors with leadership skills and engaging health professionals in career mentoring of youth.

Register for this free event to learn about work that has happening in health equity and to participate in an engaging community discussion about ways you can bring back effective actions to your own work. The virtual event is on Tuesday, March 31 at 12:00pm.

EVENT HIGHLIGHT: Hear from Dr. Hector Olvera Alvarez - Hector was formerly the Senior Associate Dean for Research at the School of Nursing at OHSU, and currently holds a similar role at the University of New Mexico. Hector will speak about his experience researching the social determinants of health and health disparities, as well as his work collaborating with and leading community organizations focused on this effort.

MIKE hosted an engaging healthcare career popup for all the 9th graders at . 84% indicated that after the event, they wanted to learn more about careers in healthcare. Department Chair and PE/Health Teacher David Mickola even donned some PPE gear to highlight the professions to his students. MIKE's Program Coordinator Anastasia Underwood, pictured on the left, guided students through the phlebotomy lab station.
