Black Surf Santa Cruz is on a mission to make surfing more inclusive and representative, ensuring African American voices and stories take center stage in the sport. They bring this energy to life by creating a space where African American surfers and ocean lovers can connect, celebrate their heritage, and make waves—literally and figuratively. Their annual Juneteenth event features a powerful Liberation Paddle Out—along with live music, delicious food, fun games, local art, and shared joy—that brings people together to honor the past while riding the tides of progress. It’s all about inclusivity, representation, and keeping the spirit of Juneteenth alive through the love of surfing.

The World Cup kicks off today! The excitement of this global event also reminds us how soccer continues to be a force for good in so many countries worldwide. In the U.S., we’re proud to be working with nonprofits like these: America SCORES and its local affiliates offer free after-school programs that support whole child development through the teamwork of soccer, the self-expression of poetry, and the community of service-learning. Soccer in the Streets breaks down barriers and creates opportunities for youth through soccer by transforming unused spaces into vibrant soccer fields and offering free programming. Go team!!

This Immigrant Heritage Month, we're celebrating an organization close to home and heart -- Maine Association for New Americans (MANA) pairs volunteers with immigrant families based on languages spoken and other personal factors to help them transition into life in Maine. Their work provides culturally grounded peer support, mental health education, cross-cultural connection, and connections with family mentors. Our executive director, Kate Brandeis, is a longtime family mentor with MANA, supporting a mom and her kids from Guatemala, as well as families from Burkina Faso and Congo.

Every child deserves a safe home, a bright future, and someone who never gives up on them. During Foster Care Month, let’s celebrate organizations like Friends of the Children—they’re building real relationships with kids who need it most. Because love and consistency can change everything.
This , meet Priscilla — a mom in Billings, MT who fought to keep her family together. When CPS became involved, Friends of the Children - Eastern Montana didn't step back. They stepped in. Friend Ted showed up with his truck and helped move Priscilla and her son Blaire to safety. Today, Blaire is in stable housing, getting to school, and connected to his Indigenous culture — his greatest protective factor. This is what 12+ years, no matter what, looks like.
