My boyfriend of one year told me my childhood dog can't move in with us because his carbon footprint is equivalent to an SUV.
We've been talking about moving in together next semester. Everything was perfect until last night when we sat down to look at leases. Out of nowhere he told me my senior dog, Buster, cannot come with us.
His reasoning? He recently went deep down an eco-minimalist rabbit hole and claims that larger dogs have a carbon footprint equivalent to an SUV. He insists that keeping him goes against the sustainable lifestyle we promised to build together.
I told him he was insane and that Buster is family. I've had him since I was twelve. He's fourteen now. He sleeps at the foot of my bed. He was there when my parents split up. When I got into college he was the one I came home to. When my grandma died he sat with me on the floor for three hours while I couldn't stop crying. He's not a lifestyle choice. He's my dog.
He doubled down. He said if I truly cared about the planet's future, I'd rehome him to someone "less enlightened" and transition to a pet-free life. He said it's not about Buster specifically. It's about the principle. He said we can't build a sustainable future if we're making exceptions for sentiment.
I told him Buster is staying. Obviously. I told him if he thinks I'm going to give away a dog I've had for ten years because of an online article, he doesn't know me at all.
He packed a bag and left. He sent me a manifesto link about the ecological impact of pet food. He said he needs space to think about whether we're compatible if I can't see the bigger picture.
I haven't heard from him in two days. My roommate says I dodged a bullet. My mom says he's probably just passionate and I should hear him out. But I keep thinking about how he looked at me — like I was being selfish for not wanting to abandon my dog.
Buster is staying. Obviously. But I don't know if I'm supposed to apologize or if I should block him.

Am I overreacting for hating when my husband compliments my body while I'm changing?
I've been married a long time. We have a good marriage. I'm fine with my body. I don't have body image stuff. We get along. We laugh. The s*x is good when we're both in the mood. I love him. That being said.
I HATE it when my husband comes in while I'm changing or just got out of the shower and makes some comment about how hot I look or how s*xy I am. It makes me furious. Yesterday I was fixing my underwear through my skirt, he saw and did this little eyebrow thing at me like I was supposed to find it cute. I wanted to hit him. I was angry all day. He kept asking what was wrong at dinner and I couldn't tell him. I didn't know how to say it without sounding crazy. Without him thinking I don't want him at all. Without him getting hurt.
I've tried to figure out if it's me. I asked myself if I just don't find him attractive anymore. If I'm not in love with him. If something is broken in me. If I'm being too sensitive or if every wife feels this way and I'm the weird one for hating it. I even wondered if I'm one of those people who can't take a compliment. But that's not it. When we're actually together and I'm in that space, I want him. I like when he tells me I'm beautiful when we're going out to dinner and I've put in effort. I'm totally fine with these comments when we're being romantic. When I've put on something nice and we're in that space together. I like feeling wanted then. But I hate them when I'm not in that headspace. When I'm getting ready for work or just got out of the shower. When I'm brushing my teeth or folding laundry. When I'm just existing in my own body and not trying to look attractive to anyone. I don't know why it bothers me so much. I don't know if that's just how marriage is supposed to work.
I don't know how to tell him that seeing me in a towel and calling me s*xy doesn't feel like a compliment to me. I just know it makes me want to scream. And I don't know if that means I'm the problem. Or if I'm just supposed to be grateful my husband still thinks I'm hot.
I don't know how to say I just want to put on my pants in peace without him taking it personal. So I haven't said anything. And he's going to walk in on me in the shower again tomorrow.
