Play Grow Learn

It is my privilege to introduce Play Grow Learn to the community. Play Grow Learn is a new organization, dedicated to providing healthy opportunities for homeless and underserved youth and families in our communities by providing weekly gym nights and family nights. PGL gym nights provide a safe and healthy outlet for kids from our communities who are living in shelters, and or homeless to engage in structured and free will play activities. Through the lens of physical fitness, kids and families participate in cooperative play and individualized exercise plans in clean, safe and welcoming environment.

In doing so, kids learn and practice social skills necessary for healthy and positive interactions with each other, their families, and members of the community. Kids also learn other skills like problem solving, conflict resolution, etc. During PGL gym nights, parents are strongly encouraged to attend and participate in fitness activities which play an integral role in strengthening families and promoting healthy lifestyles.

Children who are homeless, or who live in shelters often have more difficulties in school, challenges positively engaging with each other, and more likely to engage in criminal activity. Play Grow Learn is the difference providing skill building, and coping mechanisms as a healthy response to the challenges and negative reactions brought on by homelessness.
