$5 ARTS FOR ALL TICKETS AVAILABLE! Friends of Chamber Music presents:

โ„๏ธ Polarkr(e)is: Drifting North
๐Ÿ“… Monday, April 28 | 7:30 PM
๐Ÿ“ Lincoln Performance Hall
๐ŸŽป Performed by Meta4 String Quartet

Embark on a northern journey of sound as Meta4 weaves together music born of snow, spirit, and tradition.

๐ŸŽผ Kaija Saariaho โ€“ Fleurs de neige
Inspired by the crystalline beauty of snow, this shimmering five-minute quartet grew from the final movement of Saariahoโ€™s earlier octet Neige, transformed into something delicate and new just for Meta4.

๐ŸŽผ Amy Beach โ€“ Quartet in One Movement, Op. 89
Composed in Rome but echoing the far North, Beach incorporates Inuit melodies with deep respect and artistry in this striking one-movement work from 1929.

๐ŸŽผ Krishna Nagaraja โ€“ Stringar for String Quartet
Blending Norwegian folk dance, South Indian rhythm, and Finnish spirit, Stringar dances across regions and cultures with wild energy and rhythmic complexity.

๐ŸŽผ Jean Sibelius โ€“ String Quartet in D minor, Op. 56 "Voces Intimae"
A hauntingly introspective masterpiece, this is the only string quartet Sibelius published, filled with intensity and Nordic soul.

Join us for a musical expedition through the landscapes of the North โ€” from the snow-covered silence of Finland to the vibrant folk traditions of Norway and Alaska.

Chess Grandmaster Anna Muzychuk refuses to play in Saudi Arabia and says: "In a few days, I will lose two world titles, back to back." Because I decided not to go to Saudi Arabia. I refuse to play by special rules, to wear abaya, to be accompanied by a man so I can leave the hotel, so I don't feel like a second class person.

"I will follow my principles and not compete in the World Fast Chess and Blitz Championship where in just 5 days I could have won more money than dozens of other tournaments combined." This is all very nasty but the sad part is no one seems to care. Bitter feelings but can't go back. "
