Update: Buster heads to our vet tonight for some vaccines, an ear cytology, heart worm test and lab work. We have had an incredible amount of interest in Buster and aren’t responding right now as we won’t accept applications until his labs are back and we know if he needs another dental. No, we don’t ship our dogs to people and we don’t pick homes based on how badly someone “needs” him, but rather the home that is best for the dog. That home will be someone who has at least one small and playful companion dog, a very securely fenced yard that is likely wood or composite, and can afford his regular annual care, including dentals and allergies. This boy is so joyful and loves to play. You definitely have to keep your eye on him while he’s in the yard, but what doxie doesn’t find trouble given the chance?

Please welcome adorable senior girl Rigsby! Her owner passed away and the person caring for her realized she needed a very extensive dental (probably full mouth extractions) that would cost thousands, so she contacted us. Thank you to Misty for driving her and Amy for bathing her and delivering her to her wonderful foster home with Ellen’s family. This mini is very chill and sweet, and we wouldn’t be surprised if she liked cats and has not problem with her larger lab foster sibling. We did her vaccines yesterday and she kissed us afterwards 😭We will get her into the vet soon for lab work and a very extensive dental. If anyone wished to donate towards her dental, it would be most appreciated.

We want to highlight Frannie today, who will have been in rescue for one year at the start of July (and with us for 9 months). She’s available for adoption through Northwest Animal Companions and is such a good dog. She loves little dogs and loves all people and friendly dogs. We took her over to hang out with our most shut down Ridglan beagle yesterday (Lucky). Since Frannie is so happy, we thought that her sunshine might rub off on Lucky. He was interested to start, but she thought he was so cute that she kept trying to play with him (which was a little too much for him). We will continue to be patient with Lucky and celebrate the small wins (his favorite time of day when he drinks water and plays is at 9pm). Frannie is such a good girl, please share her so she can find her forever home! She may have a frosty face at 7 years, but she’s so energetic and loves to walk and play. Check out stories to see her lounging on Melissa and Blake’s couch without a care in the world, right after we left her 🤪

Millie Pupdate: This 3 year old girl was spayed this week and is recovering in her foster home! She is sweet, playful and and bonds quickly with her people. She can be shy at first and we think she is dachshund x Jack Russell Terrier. She is potty trained if let out consistently and would love a cat free home with adult or senior small dogs. She is ok around relaxed medium dogs (but doesn’t love puppy energy). She came to last Sunday’s event and did well with the other dogs, and was twinning with Nina. We love this little pup!

Fiona update! This puppy is finally off medical hold and we will call applications next week. She went to Bridgetown Vet Emergency + Referral for a consult with what’s been going on. The doctor there feels like because she has improved so much with a special digestive care diet for puppies, that they don’t feel she has an obvious structural abnormalities. If she did have narrowing of her digestive tract, it wouldn’t be addressed surgically, but medically managed. This doesn’t mean she won’t have the occasional painful p**p, but we are focusing on her hydration. Now that she’s established with a doctor, her new home will bring her back for a recheck in 4-8 months. This girl is feisty, playful, incredibly bossy and loves to cuddle with people. She has the maximum personality packed into this 3.5 lbs body. We won’t have time to call apps until next week, as we are focusing on two other dogs for meet and greets, as well as a surrender. Happy Friday!

Our sweet and crazy beagle Gus is still available for adoption. He’s really come out of his shell the last few weeks and we love it. He’s loves his foster parents and other dogs. He is super food motivated and counters surfs if you aren’t watching him 🤪. He will need an active home with some canine friends (cats ok, also)! We know your forever home is just around the corner, Gus!

Is anyone coming from the Bend area to Portland in the next week that can transport a doxie?

Please welcome 3 year old Buster back to the rescue. He is back because he and the big dog on the other side of his owner’s fence kept trying to get to one another by digging, and Buster would have been injured by the big dog since they didn’t like one another. Buster was fine with the big dog on the other sides of the yard. His owner tried everything with reinforcing the fence, but it was not successful. This boy is one of the sweetest, happiest dogs ever and he likes savvy cats, other friendly dogs and even kids. He needs vaccines, lab work and possibly another dental, so stay tuned.

Maxx update: This gorgeous boy is starting to settle in and relax in his foster home. He adores being outside and will wait by the door to get his harness and leash on for walks. We did start him on Prozac to help with transition and he feels comfortable being part of a pack of crazy dogs. He doesn’t play yet, but with we are confident he will learn. He is still scared of men, but e won’t rush that process, and it just may not be in the cards to be around men at all. He will come to today’s event since he likes other dogs and we will give him the choice of interacting with people or just other PDR dogs. Really proud of this boy and how brave he is being!

Reminder: Our adoption event is tomorrow from 12-3pm Jenn's Dogs in Cornelius. Nina, Fiona, Trout, Teddy, Millie and possibly Maxx will be there. We will be inside as it’s going to be a hot one! Floki has a meet and greet, so we hope that’s successful and he won’t be there, but might join if not successful. See you all there at the pet fair, with tons of great vendors (training, photography, pet grooming, etc).
