Appreciation Post: we have so many incredible volunteers who invest hours of their time at Missio, often when no one else is watching. Today, we want to highlight and thank Suzie Bauer and Birch Rubens for sealing and staining our back fence!
We’re grateful for each one of you - we see you loving God and serving His church ❤️

We’ve planned a variety of connection events and training sessions for almost every ministry on our campus. At our Block Party on September 1, you can learn about all the ministry opportunities available at Missio and sign up to serve this fall.
More details will be coming your way in the next few weeks, but for now – save these dates and enjoy the last few weeks of summer! ☀️

We’re so grateful to get to announce a big answer to prayer: we have an Interim Pastor! Tim Osborn has committed to serve as Missio’s Interim Lead Pastor for the upcoming season. Tim brings a wealth of experience, having recently served as the Lead Pastor at Mosaic Church in NE Portland for the past 17 years, as well as leading the Portland Metro Network (PMN) of Alliance NW churches for many years.
Tim and his wife Abby have been married for 26 years and have three sons (ages 26, 23, and 17). Tim will be joining our Staff Team this Tuesday, July 23, to ensure a smooth leadership transition. We look forward to introducing him to you all in person this Sunday, July 28, during our Expression.
Visit our website (missiocommunity.org) to read the full update about Tim, how long he’ll be serving in this role, and how you can be praying as we continue the search for our next Lead Pastor.

Missio family, we’re inviting every adult to participate in the PEAK Profile survey, an anonymous survey designed to help churches expand to their fullest potential as envisioned by God. The survey assesses the development of the 9 Essential Elements for a thriving church, identifying key areas that need growth.
The survey is available now until Monday, June 17 and takes about 20 minutes to complete in one sitting. We greatly value and appreciate your input - thank you!

In Spring 2024, our lead pastor, Dominic Kan, shared with our community that he felt called to pursue a counseling degree and would be stepping down from his role at Missio at the end of July. Many steps have been taken in the search for our next lead pastor - the search team has posted the lead pastor opening on several platforms and is inviting our community to be involved in these 3 ways:
1) We invite you to join us in prayer - asking God for his leading in this process as we search for lead pastor candidates.
2) We ask that you share about the job opening and point people to our website to view the profile and to apply:

3) We ask that you reach out if you have any questions or concerns by emailing the search team at: [email protected]

Out of an abundance of caution and the desire to keep everyone safe, we have decided to cancel tomorrow’s Sunday Expression (January 14) both in person and over Zoom. All other official Missio activities are canceled as well (no MC Leader Huddle tomorrow).
If you have any needs over the next few days, either prayer requests or practical help needed, please reach out to the staff team or within the Missio Family so we can care for one another (and friends and neighbors) as needed. Please be safe and stay connected in community, and we look forward to being back together soon!

Hey Missio! It’s Dominic ☺️ Our Neighborhood Block Party is THIS SUNDAY, September 3 from 10:30am-12:30pm! The Staff Team and I have been preparing and praying, and we're excited to see how God works through our time of gathering this Sunday. We envision this day to be an opportunity to welcome in and connect with neighbors from our surrounding neighborhood for the sake of relationship and learning how we can be good neighbors. This Block Party is one way that we'll get to put into practice some of the things we learned through our summer series on hospitality and what it looks like to extend the welcome of Jesus to others. The success of the day won’t be based upon how many neighbors come out, but in how we welcome and embody the love of Jesus for those who show up with the desire to experience connection in the community.
To that end, I wanted to share a few invitations as we prepare to gather together this Sunday and welcome our neighbors:
1. Join us in praying for our neighbors to respond to the invitations they’ve received, and for us to receive them well.
2. Please show up by 10:15am to help welcome our neighbors. Since the Block Party activities will be held in the upper parking lot, it will not be open for parking. Parking is available in the Barbur West Plaza lot located directly next to our property, and in our lower (east) parking lot. Please plan to park in one of these lots and walk to the upper parking lot.
3. Please come prepared to help create an atmosphere of hospitality for our guests. Even if you're not serving in any particular capacity, your presence can help create an atmosphere of welcome. Seek to connect with people you don't recognize and be present with them in a way that helps them feel seen and safe in our space. A few lead-in questions you might ask someone after introducing yourself are: "How did you hear about the Block Party?” or "What interested you in coming out to our Block Party today?” or “How long have you lived in the area (or in Portland)"?
4. Several local businesses have donated gift cards that we will be raffling off this Sunday. The raffle is only for our neighbors and guests to win, as a way to bless some guests that come and to promote support for the area businesses. Please join us in reserving this as something special for our guests and celebrating with those who win. All the other activities and food are for all of us to participate in and enjoy together!
We're thankful that over the last couple years the Lord has given us his favor in our new home, and we look forward to continuing to take steps to connect with and serve our neighbors and make the love of Jesus more fully known in the neighborhood where he has planted us. I believe our Neighborhood Block Party is going to be a fun and memorable experience for all and look forward to loving and serving our neighbors together. See you this Sunday at 10:15am!
Dominic

We want to welcome in and connect with those in our surrounding neighborhood to build relationships and learn how we can be good neighbors.
