On the blog today: Kathleen & Danny's adventurous elopement on the Oregon Coast. I have so many vivid memories from this wedding--the ferns and wild rhododendrons, the wild light changes as patches of clouds blew over, Kathleen's veil performing great feats of magic, the excellent conversation and company, and a fine fine vow exchange in one of my most favorite Sitka groves. Enjoy!

Courtney & Jimmy perfectly summing up how misty, gorgeous and romantic the base of an Oregon waterfall is in the summer.

What an evening. I felt that magical photographer's tingle of "AHHHHH!THATLIGHT!" when we walked up to the water, and couldn't stop grinning in mad delight as these two beautiful women made an already stunning mountain landscape feel even more fleeting and extraordinary. For a few perfect minutes, the wind died, the clouds floated merrily in the blue sky, and Amy and Jen snuggled in the sunlight. As we walked away, the wind picked up and the light faded—-and we knew we’d witnessed something special.
Today, I got fabulous news: chosen as one of 30 from over 3,000 submissions, this moment is now a part of the World's Best Wedding Photos' 2025 Signature Collection. Go Amy & Jen!

Get married at a waterfall, read your vows in a quiet field of flowers, and wander through the wildflowers at sunset. Megan & Kasem truly know how to make memories.

The redwoods. No better place for two nerdy, beautiful people to elope amongst the jaw-droppingly huge trees, monster ferns, sunbeams... and surely an Ewok or two.

Jonathan at Atelier Pictures did my very first promo video back in... gosh, 2014? Since then, we've worked on so many incredible projects. He incorporated footage of our elopement and wedding adventures into this latest film for Elope Adventurously. I am so grateful--it really shows the amazing things we get to do with absolutely wonderful humans (hello out there!). I hope you enjoy.
And stay to the very end--Jonathan clearly wants you to know what an enthusiastic dork I am.
If you haven't visited yet, Elope Adventurously is even more adventurous these days!

Wandering the mountains of Washington on a glorious August day, Amy, Jen and their wedding posse encountered all manner of beauty. From quiet car moments winding up hill roads, to stone steps leading to fairytale lakes, to snuggles and dance spins, and even traveling under the raised trekking poles of some celebratory hikers, the day was unforgettable from start to finish. Congratulations to these two amazing women!

Friends, I'm so excited to announce my new Elope Adventurously website! With the help of the incredible Ryan at 2nd Street Creative and Jonathan at Atelier Pictures, I feel so well represented to the world.
I launched my first Elope Adventurously site just over 10 years ago as an invitation to quiet souls to have a tiny wedding at a waterfall (while allowing Aralani Photography to hold down the fort on larger atmospheric weddings, portraits and the like). I couldn't even begin to imagine the adventures that awaited me, the amazing people I'd adventure with (hi out there!), and how much I'd grow as an artist as the years went on.
So here it is: my renewed invitation to get married at a waterfall or somewhere magical out in the natural world. I'm excited to meet new adventurers, and to see some of you again for more magic. I am grateful for all of you!

“Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate
And though I oft have passed them by
A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon, East of the Sun.”
(-a favorite from Mr. Tolkien)
New years always feel like new roads and secret gates to me—due to the nature of this work, I walk into each new year with a general sense of some upcoming adventures, but by the end of the year, the full picture is always wildly different than the sketch.
The weddings and events I documented were all so different, full of incredible humans and experiences I will never forget--the deep love, unique relationships, fierce connection, humor and joy were immeasurable. The locations, familiar and un-, were especially grand this year with mountains, misty forests, wineries, bed and breakfasts, treehouses and craggy oceanscapes as only a few of my favorites.
With zero international travel planned at the beginning of 2025, I still found myself walking in utter awe on the sands of the Sahara Desert in Morocco, through Roman and Iron Age ruins in Bulgaria, along emerald-green cliffs in Ireland, and over the magical trails of Banff in Canada. I feel like my world view opened wildly with new destinations, cultures and history in each place. I met a LOT of street dogs and cats. And sheep. And a nomad!
For both work and fun, I backpacked in Washington and Canada. These days and nights were easily some of my most vivid memories from the year: a literally breathtaking sunset elopement ceremony followed by tents under the Milky Way, goat families wandering around my glacier-view campsite after a glorious hike through wildflower fields, and a wandering hike to turquoise-watered/golden-larch-framed Floe Lake in Canada. All together, I hiked, ran and backpacked well over 600 miles this year, many miles of which were spent with my young pup, Zula. My husband, Nathan, and my older dog, Ukee, were frequent companions as well.
I am so grateful for all of you: those who shine so much light into my life and bring your stories with you. Thank you for an amazing 2025, and I hope to accompany many of you to new roads, secret gates and hidden paths in 2026. Cheers!
