Did you know that Acupuncture can help treat peripheral neuropathy?
Neuropathy occurs in the extremities (arms, legs, hands, and feet) when nerves become damaged due to a wide range of causes, like diabetes, traumatic injuries, infections, vitamin deficiencies or over-supplementation, autoimmune diseases, metabolic problems and exposure to toxins (such as chemotherapy drugs).
Peripheral neuropathy can affect different nerves, from the sensory nerves responsible for registering sensations (like hot, cold, painful and soft) to motor nerves that govern how you move. It can even impact the autonomic nerves that control your body temperature, heart rate and digestion.
With Acupuncture treatment, the goal is to re-stimulate damaged nerve fibers and prevent them from dying off. Acupuncture is really good at restoring blood flow to the affected areas and stimulating the nerve pathways in the body, and also releases endorphins, which are the body's natural pain killers.
If you are experiencing peripheral neuropathy, have you considered trying Acupuncture as a complementary treatment to your regimen? Asula's Acupuncturists would love to be a part of your care team.
You can schedule at our Pearl District office by calling (503) 719-5335 or our Lake Oswego office by calling (971) 330-8578.

Did you know that August is National Health Awareness month?
This broad theme is a general reminder about taking time to pause and look at your own well-being, the health of your family and friends, and the collective health of your greater community.
August is a transitional month for many people. Families prepare for the kids the head back to school, workers return from vacation, and we all get ready for the upcoming busier fall season. These shifts from summer to early fall are a perfect time to check in on personal health.
Here are some simple ways to observe National Health Awareness Month:
โ
Book a check-up or annual screening for yourself or your family.
โ
Learn something new about a health topic youโre less familiar with.
โ
Start a wellness challenge at work or with friends like taking more steps, more water, or a weekly healthy family dinner.
โ
Share health resources online or with your community.
โ
Reach out to someone who might be struggling emotionally or physically. Sometimes a simple, โHow are you feeling?โ can open important conversations.
โ
Join local events, health fairs, or seminars: Many communities host free screenings or educational sessions in August.
Also an important reminder is that Asula's providers are here to help you feel your best on a daily basis. Consider getting scheduled for a Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Naturopath, or Massage Therapy visit in August to help support your overall well-being.

Have you worked with our Licensed Massage Therapist, Chance, yet?
Chance blends Thai massage techniques and concepts with traditional massage to offer a unique treatment experience. He enjoys focusing on breathwork, deep tissue work, stretching, and relaxation techniques to help clients achieve their individual goals with massage therapy. He likes to collaborate differently with clients to meet them where they are each day in their bodies and minds with both specific and holistic treatments.
Chance graduated from the East College of the Healing Arts in Portland, OR in December 2024 and received a certificate in Thai Massage training from the Sunshine School of Massage in Chiang Mai Thailand in January 2025.
You can catch Chance biking, running, or dancing around Portland, hiking and camping around the surrounding natural areas, or just at home with his two cats. He plays soccer and futsal and uses his personal experience with injuries, recoveries, and the stress of being an athlete to inform his bodywork and self-care recommendations.
Chance is currently working at our Pearl District office. You can get on his schedule by calling (503) 719-5335.

Summer is one of the most physically active times of year. Your body is doing a lot, and your muscles and joints feel every bit of it.
When we push our bodies through increased physical activity, our muscles develop small areas of tension and tightness (often called knots) in the fascia and soft tissue. Left unaddressed, these areas of tension don't just cause soreness and stiffness. They can also interfere with one of the most important parts of recovery: sleep.
Massage therapy works directly on the muscles, fascia, and connective tissue to release tension, improve circulation, and help your body shift into the parasympathetic state, its natural mode of rest and repair. When your body is able to fully relax, sleep quality improves, recovery speeds up, and you wake up feeling ready to get back out there.
Think of regular massage not as a treat, but as maintenance for an active body. Here are just a few things it can help with this summer:
๐ง Releasing muscle tension and tightness from outdoor activities
๐ง Improving circulation to speed up recovery
๐ง Reducing inflammation in overworked soft tissue
๐ง Calming the nervous system for deeper, more restorative sleep
๐ง Preventing minor muscle imbalances from becoming bigger injuries
Asula's Licensed Massage Therapists are here to help you make the most of your summer, inside and out.
If you want to get scheduled, you can reach our Pearl District office at (503) 719-5335 and our Lake Oswego office at (971) 330-8578.
