Rising Phoenix

It’s my day off, I went downtown for a bit this morning to have some time out of the house, and spoke with a man outside of Powell’s books who was setting up a vendor table for his art he’s been making out of recycled materials for the last 36 years. He asked me what I was passionate about and I said tarot. Apparently I was the first person he’s spoken to that answered that question with that answer. I came back home and decided it was as good a day as any other to pull a card. Not for any specific reading, just to keep my studies of each card intact and fresh in my memory.

The moment I began shuffling, the King of Swords flew out of the deck.

I considered first that swords are represented by the element of air, which is an intellectual domain of thinking and the pursuit of knowledge. The King is an authority figure, protector, leader. I thought very much of my own father, his constant pursuit of knowledge, his leadership in our family and also the church. He always maintained the same level of focus on the things that were important to him. He was a very level headed man, he communicated very clearly, and although he was rooted in his beliefs, he always sought to learn more. I have more respect and admiration for those traits now as an adult, and I’m inspired to be like him in those ways. The King of Swords represents him in all of those ways and more.

Tarot is my catalyst for processing the most difficult emotions I’ve ever felt. Without any intention aside from basic study, the card that jumps out directly correlates to the piece of my life that I struggle the most with. Being reminded of so many specific details of my dad does make me miss him more. The King of Swords is my reminder that although we all leave this earthly realm eventually, we leave a mark on the world anyway. I will treasure the parts of him that I carry with me, and hopefully pass them on to those I love, the same way he did.

It’s been a rough summer, and honestly I’m glad it’s over. I was off work for two months taking care of my father while he was in the hospital with stage 4 cancer, and he ended up passing away 4 days before my birthday. Every day I have a hard time grasping the fact that he’s not here anymore. So of course, in my time of need I turn to tarot. It brings me joy and fulfillment to help others through my craft, and I hope to grow it exponentially.

Thank you to all my regular clients who have stuck with me through all the changes life has offered me this year. I can’t express how thankful I am to be your go to reader. I’m offering many more types of readings this year and I know they will be of great use to everyone! Starting the week off with a spell for releasing fear + a crystal grid for encouraging strength and faith in the self. The blue and black candles burn to release both the conscious and unconscious fear surrounding the situation. The grid will stay in formation until it becomes irrelevant or unnecessary.

Taking time to do a spell or a ritual can absolutely be compared to prayer, for me they go hand in hand. I may not pray to a specific entity, but you totally can if you subscribe to a theistic belief system. My prayer goes more towards consciousness of the universe as a whole. Everything is energy, and my rituals bring the most fitting energetic frequency for the desired outcome into alignment.

This time of year has become much of a challenge for me. After my birthday, I become overwhelmed with grief and memories of traumatic events. PTSD, CPTSD, and BPD are no strangers to me, and I’ve been working on accepting them as old friends who mean well and are present because they want to keep me safe. I accept them, and I don’t allow them to have complete influence or control over my emotions or actions. Some days are easier than others. Hard things are possible. Even if they feel like an immovable obstacle.

Our focus lies with dedicated work toward change, choosing better for ourselves, making ideas into realities, creating families, bettering relationships and finding community that makes us feel whole.
